Essential Job Functions

Ensure compliance with all state, federal and local governmental EHS regulations and site-specific permits or approvals. This includes written programs, record keeping, reports, inspections, monitoring, testing, training and medical surveillance per guidelines.

Perform Required Inspections And Audits Per Permit Requirements.

Direct, develop and deliver environmental safety and health training programs to ensure employee’s knowledge, understanding and adherence to safety and environmental regulations pertaining to the operation of the facility.

Develop, implement and coordinate all Industrial Hygiene activities including non-hazardous, hazardous, and universal and infectious waste disposal.

Develop, implement and coordinate all Fire Prevention/Protection and Ergonomic programs. This includes all required training, recordkeeping, monitoring and reporting programs and results.

Facilitate tracking, approval and maintenance of chemical inventories for hazard notification, reporting requirements and l Safety Data Sheet system updates.

Ensure resolution of all EHS issues identified during internal/external compliance audits.

Maintain safety training in accordance with OSHA standards.

Review and stay up to date in safety practices and regulations in general industry as well as construction industry.

Develop and report key performance indicators for safety performance.

Review and keep up to date safety programs, procedures and manuals.

Implement and manage programs in accordance with the company safety policies.

Provide input for budgeting safety items in both the operating budget and the capital budgets.

Coordinate the employee Safety Committee.

Conduct safety incident investigations.

Conduct safety walk downs and audits.

Engage with plant employees and contractors to ensure effectiveness of safety programs.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Dependable, reliable and predictable attendance is required.

Must possess a valid, in-state motor vehicle operator’s license at all times.

Knowledge, Skill, And Abilities

Must have a working knowledge of power plant regulatory requirements to ensure that the plant remains in compliance with all of its environmental permits and plans.

Knowledge of OSHA safety standards.

Must be able to handle multiple job assignments on a daily basis while meeting objectives and deadlines. Strong time-management and teamwork skills necessary.

Knowledge of AC/DC circuits, electrical theory and control theory.

Understanding of integrated power generation systems.

Strong mechanical aptitude and ability on reciprocating engines, pumps, valves and compressors.

Must have demonstrated skills in environmental management.

Must have strong leadership, motivational, and communication (oral and written) skills, including the ability to communicate effectively to large groups.

Education And Experience

A.A.S or equivalent from a two-year college or tech school and two years of experience or four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

BS degree in Environmental, Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering or other science field.

Bending/Stooping/Kneeling: Must be able to bend, stoop or kneel down to work with equipment or materials. Must be able to work in confined spaces.

Stair/Ladder Climbing: Must be able to climb stairs and/or ladders on equipment at the plant. Must be able to walk on platforms at high altitudes (80 feet or higher)

Lifting/Pulling/Pushing: Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds and pull or push equipment or materials. Moderate over-head reaching and lifting and grasping is necessary.

Fingering/Grasping/Feeling: Must be able to write, type, and use phone system.

Working Conditions

Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts with probable weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, workload and plant conditions. Position will require on-call status. Protective clothing and equipment are required for plant site.

All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a pre-employment physical examination and drug screening, and random drug screening during employment. Extensive smoking restrictions exist in and around the facility.
