Educationonal Recreation Coordinator

St. Catherine of Siena Shelter provides compassionate care and support for up to 10 co-ed youth, ranging from birth to 21 years old, who have a history of trauma and are medically complex. The Educational/Recreational Coordinator will design and implement educational and recreational programs tailored to the diverse needs and abilities of the children/adolescents/young adults who are placed with us by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.

  • Maintains open communication with youth and staff to promote a safe and positive environment.
  • Design and implement individual educational programming for the residents of the program.
  • Collaborate with staff, educators, and therapists to integrate educational goals into daily activities.
  • Develop and oversee recreational activities that promote physical fitness, social interaction, and emotional well-being.
  • Organize outings and field trips that are safe and enriching for the residents.
  • Work closely with staff and educational specialists to create and monitor academic programming and IEP’s if applicable for each resident. Building and maintaining partnerships with local schools and community organizations to enhance educational opportunities for residents.
  • Point of contact for all IEP meetings, evaluations.
  • Conduct regular assessments to track residents’ progress in educational and recreational activities.
  • Work collaboratively with program staff and Strategic Performance staff to collect and document data.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports on residents’ educational achievements and participation.
  • Advocate for the educational and recreational needs of our residents within the broader community.
  • Attend scheduled staffing and court dates as needed.
  • Foster a collaborative and supportive environment that prioritizes the holistic development of each resident.
  • Attends and participates in professional workshops, conferences and seminars as assigned.
  • Point of contact for special projects (ex; make a wish)
  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
  • Point of contact between School and SCS
  • Coordinate all activities for transportation between school and SCS (including bus schedule, pickups, arrivals, etc.)

Qualifications

Bachelors Degree in Education, Recreation Management, Public Health, Child Development, or a related field.

Experience teaching children, youth or adults.

Strong understanding of child development and educational strategies as well as best practices for diverse leaners.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team.

Compassionate, patient, and empathetic approach to working with vulnerable children and youth.
