The Office Of Information Technology (OIT)

The Office of Information Technology (OIT) is dedicated to meeting the IT needs of our faculty, students, and staff. Our goal is to lead in IT services and deliver innovative solutions that support the University's research, education, and community service objectives.

Within the Student and Academic Services Division of OIT, the Educational Technology and Student Success Services (ETS3) team supports and administers the Canvas learning management system. We enhance this system by reviewing and integrating third-party educational technology tools, and we manage a range of homegrown educational technology and student success tools.

Position Overview

Under the general supervision of the Manager, User and Product Operations, the Education Technology Specialist will serve as the primary technical administrator for our learning management system and ecosystem of educational technology and student success tools. This role involves coordinating instructional technology services and delivering customer service and technical support to our faculty, staff, and students. The specialist will leverage their expertise to address novel questions and requests for configuration, evaluating and reporting on potential options and their risks. Additionally, the specialist will examine technical, system, service delivery, and business processes for efficiency and effectiveness, recommending changes as necessary. They will also develop and deliver training sessions for various departments on the full suite of EdTech Services, both in-person and virtually.

Responsibilities

Thorough understanding of the instructional and administrative features of major vendor learning management systems (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard, D2L) to troubleshoot complex systems and provide empathetic support to end-users.

Familiarity with other educational technology tools integrated with the LMS (e.g., Turnitin, Gradescope).

Experience with the installation, configuration, and upgrade of external tools in an LMS.

Awareness of current trends and best practices in educational technology and online learning.

Ability to develop effective training materials (e.g., workshops, webinars, tutorials, guides, videos) tailored to different audiences (instructors, students, staff).

Knowledge of computer, media, and networking technology.

Ability to assess campus or institutional needs for LMS technology products and design services to meet those needs.

Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with campus stakeholders, particularly faculty, lecturers, and teaching assistants from diverse backgrounds.

Excellent customer service and consultative skills to quickly assess users' technology proficiencies and implement required technology solutions.

Effective interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information to both technical and non-technical personnel at various levels.

Ability to prioritize tasks based on work area knowledge, self-motivation, and problem-solving skills.

Strong organizational abilities and project management skills to independently manage complex tasks with competing demands.

The expected pay range for this role is $31.94-$56.75 per hour.

Required

Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

3-5 years of experience administering a learning management system in an educational environment.
