Description
Reports to: Supervisor of Early Education Programs
Employment Information: Full time, 12-month bargaining unit position
Educational consultant to address the educational, social and communication needs of deaf/hard of hearing infants/toddlers and students in partnership with their family and school personnel. The teacher will travel to various school locations and families’ homes to provide services as prescribed in the student’s IFSP/IEP.

- This position will also be responsible for running our transitional Early Intervention playgroup of 2 year olds Tues/Wed/Thurs to prepare them for the transition to preschool at age 3. Caseload will include students in playgroup for home visits.**

The teacher will travel to various school locations and families’ homes to provide services as prescribed in the student’s IFSP/IEP.
Responsibilities
- Provide services to deaf and hard of hearing children and their families in the home and community in compliance with early intervention procedures and timelines.
- Promote development of language skills of deaf and hard of hearing infants/toddlers in the natural environment in partnership with their families.
- Provide well-balanced, accurate information regarding communication opportunities to support families’ ability to make informed choices.
- Partner with managing audiologist to enhance families’ understanding of their child’s hearing levels.
- Facilitate parents' ability to connect with community resources.
- Monitor progress of outcomes across domains utilizing evidence- based assessments.
- Develop IFSP goals based on early intervention assessment data.
- Collaborate as an effective member of the interdisciplinary team.
- Complete mandated early intervention trainings in compliance with state and county standards.
- Perform listening checks and simple troubleshooting procedures on amplification devices and assistive technology.
- Provide in-service presentations for teachers including suggestions for environmental accommodations, teaching strategies and understanding of assistive technology.
- Plan instructional strategies for adapting curriculum and materials to meet individual tudent needs.
- Utilize data to develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEP) to meet the unique needs of the student.
- Report on student progress according to Philadelphia County guidelines.
- Foster self-advocacy skills among deaf/hard of hearing students.
- Maintain ongoing communication with parents regarding student progress
Physical Demands
This Position May Require The Following Physical Demands
- Occasionally lift up to 15 pounds.
- Generally work in standard office conditions and climate.
- Work in an environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines and a varied diverse array of contacts.
- Regularly walk, sit, stand, kneel, crouch, stoop and reach with hands and arms.
- Manual dexterity to efficiently operate a computer keyboard and other business machines.
- Near vision sufficient to read written communications and computer display screen.
- Travels to homes of families for home visits in the Philadelphia regional area.
