Essential Qualities:

Key Responsibilities:
In collaboration with the Head Teacher , create a play-based, inquiry-based, constructivist early childhood environment, influenced by Reggio Emilia philosophy in action, including reflective teaching, family engagement and documentation
Demonstrate interest in creating lesson plans/learning experiences reflective of children’s interest and inquiry, and play-based curriculum threads with Head Teacher/ Classroom Teaching Assistant (when applicable)
Be committed to utilizing assessments, tools and technology to enhance planning and instruction
Actively observe, assess, and document the student learning experience in partnership with Head Teacher
Create and commit to an Observation & Recording process with Head Teacher
Support and assist with weekly class newsletters ( including class photos, researched articles and curriculum highlights)
Gain familiarity with ASQs and HELP Hawaii Checklist assessment tool
Develop strategies to meet the various developmental and pre-academic needs of young children within a heterogeneous classroom
Design, develop and maintain learning environments (indoor and outdoor) that engage children in authentic ways, valuing organization of the classroom areas, (setting up provocations for children in the morning, as well as putting materials away, and resetting the classroom at the end of the day)
Cultivate a sense of peace, wonderment and an aesthetically pleasing classroom environment that nourish creativity and fosters a young child's sense of autonomy, creativity and independence
Use language mindfully, thoughtfully and respectfully with children and team
Assist with the overall management and functioning of the class including: toileting/diapering, handwashing, snack/meal assistance, cleaning/disinfecting materials, yard maintenance, student engagement and backyard supervision
Assist with administrative tasks (photocopying, organizing, preparing materials, etc.)
Participate in team meetings to reflect on teaching practices, give/receive feedback and make adjustments in partnership with administration and faculty
Attend Divisional Meetings
Demonstrate effective interpersonal communication skills when partnering with colleagues, families, students and caregivers
Offer meaningful contributions to and participate in Wonderment Night during the fall semester and an end of year culminating celebration highlighting the year of growth, learning, play, joy and wonderment.
When HT is absent, actively take on the leadership responsibilities of the HT
Qualifications:
Previous experience supervising and supporting young children in a school setting
Bachelor’s degree required; M.ED, MA or MS in Early Childhood Education in progress, or currently held (preferred)
Background Check Requirements:
Please note that Section 424-A of the New York State Social Service Law requires that all employees be cleared with the State Central Registry to determine if they are the subject of an indicated child abuse or maltreatment report. Also, all employees are subject to be fingerprintinted by a school approved private vendor. Additional fingerprinting by DOHMH- Identogo will be required for Early Childhood Program Employees
Health Requirements:
All employees are required to have received one COVID vaccine series (but not a booster).Should the DOH institute a mandate for any vaccination, including COVID vaccination, we will require staff to comply, with due time and notice from the school
Salary Range: Part Time: $21,500; Full-Time: $43,000
Hours Of Work:
Part-Time: 8:00-12:30 (Monday through Friday) 8:00-4:45 (Thursdays)
Full-Time 8:00-4:00 (Monday through Friday) 8:00-4:45 (Thursdays)
