Maintains day-to-day bus operation schedules for RTD and by initiating and responding to radio/phone calls to and from bus operators, street supervisors, private contractors, and maintenance personnel. Directs activities of bus operators while on route. This is a safety sensitive position subject to the rules and regulations of the RTD drug and alcohol policy.

Duties & Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL:

  • Responds, with minimal notice, to the changing needs of RTD and private contractor bus operations regarding coverage of operations such as emergency situations, bus replacement and repair, re-routing of buses, delays in service, and detours.
  • Coordinates with internal departments and external entities regarding incidents, accidents, emergencies, road conditions, adverse weather, detours, service disruptions, schedule changes, and other emergent issues.
  • Accurately records and maintains events and activities in the CAD/AVL system.
  • Facilitates communication with bus operators, various command centers, call centers, emergency responders, street operations staff, and other internal/external partners to ensure efficient and reliable bus operations.
  • Monitors bus operations via CAD-AVL system to ensure safety, reliability, scheduling and performance of bus operations.
  • Coordinates extra service, bus bridges, bus respacing, special events and other projects as assigned. Performs station starter duties as needed.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of one year dispatching experience with CAD/AVL preferred
  • A minimum of two years of experience as a full-time Bus Operator. (This minimum requirement may be met if actual driving experience is supplemented by other directly related transit experience).
  • Proficient in bus operations policies, procedures, fare structure, routes, and schedules.
  • The ability to work unusual hours, split shifts, weekend, and holidays. Due to industry demands you may be required to work/cover shift(s), stay late or start early on short notice.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Ability to use sound judgment.
  • Ability to manage time and workload effectively which includes planning, organizing, and prioritizing with attention to details.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Pay Range

$65,177.00 - $92,062.25 Annual
