Director, Undergraduate Admission

Princeton University invites applications and nominations for the position of Director, Undergraduate Admission. We seek a candidate with proven ability to supervise and manage the daily operations of the Admission office and staff. Reporting to the Dean of Admission and Financial Aid, the Director is responsible for overseeing the operations of the Office of Admission and its staff, and, working with the Dean, developing long-term goals and policies to ensure that the University's undergraduate admission objectives are met. They act as the senior advisor to the Dean on all admission matters and assist with strategic planning efforts for undergraduate admission. With the Dean's approval, the Director coordinates student recruitment and selection as well as staffing issues. The Director oversees application processing and review. When required, the Director represents the Dean on campus with all constituencies and off campus with professional and educational groups. Direct reports will include the associate deans who oversee a variety of strategic and operational portfolios and the senior assistant dean responsible for the alumni engagement program. The Director also works closely with the Office of Financial Aid to implement the university's generous policies. Some travel will be required, typically during the fall. Extended hours (including nights and weekends) can be expected during the review, selection and yielding of the class. Resume and cover letter required.

Responsibilities

Provide strong administrative leadership for the admission process including overseeing the review of 40K+ applications each year as well as the daily operations of the 45-person admission staff. This includes leading the development of staffing policies, standards and goals for the day-to-day operation of the office.

Review applications, chair a selection committee and work closely with the Dean to produce the final class.

Serve as a thought partner for the Dean to develop and implement recruitment strategies.

Represent the Office of Admission on various campus-wide committees and other projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Essential qualifications:

  • Eight to ten years of admission experience with proven experience in the supervision of other staff members
  • Significant experience managing admission operations
  • Excellent writing and public speaking skills
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to take initiative
  • Strong analytical, quantitative and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to relate positively to people with a variety of interests, backgrounds and points of view and to use tact, diplomacy and discretion
  • Ability to exercise excellent judgment while working collegially in a high pressure, deadline-driven environment
  • Willingness to learn and to accept and use constructive feedback
  • Ease with complexity and ambiguity
  • Familiarity with the Slate platform
