Job Overview

The Director, TV Technical Operations is responsible for maintaining NYRA TV’s technical operations, including managing the engineering team, equipment, preparing reports and working with the production team to ensure quality programs for national broadcast, simulcast and in-house A/V events.

Essential Functions

  • Manage and support live, on-site and remote studio environments that run multiple shows simultaneously and across three distinct venues (Aqueduct, Belmont Park and Saratoga).
  • Responsible for inventory, maintaining and deploying all broadcast equipment at each racetrack, including cameras, robotics, microphones, communications equipment, controllers, wireless equipment, etc.
  • Oversees all technical functions and platforms of the broadcast production trailer fleet.
  • Organizes and directs all moves between racetracks, working closely with Facilities and electricians on scheduling.
  • Assists Facilities and electrician team with video and audio signal distribution at racetracks, including active barn areas.
  • Directly manages engineering/tech staff.
  • Serves as key resource for all production and operations to include production call sheets, daily engineering/tech schedules, communication, scheduling facilities, operator crew hiring, and integrating workflows with other productions sometimes happening simultaneously.
  • Upholds a professional appearance and demeanor that reflects the role’s status as an ambassador and network representative for NYRA and acts as a primary liaison between a wide variety of entities across NYRA (e.g., Facility Management, Broadcast Operations, Finance, Production Crews, Vendors, Race Directors and other TV network representatives).
  • Monitors the industry for emerging technologies, developing trends to keep NYRA broadcasts on the cutting edge.
  • Works with production teams to organize and execute a technical and operational plan to ensure assigned productions meet NYRA creative and technical objectives.
  • Ability to organize and maintain maps & drawings of all (3) venue infrastructures for communication for all entities
  • Trains new hires on various equipment, including cameras, audio, production control room systems and procedures.
  • Works closely with the Finance department, Sr. Director of Broadcast Operations and Crew Supervisor on managing cost, coordination of crew, and show requirements.
  • Serve as main point of contact for NYRA partners to coordinate transmission paths.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 7+ years in live sports broadcast, television, or other production/project management roles with sports broadcast production
  • Knowledge of current broadcast technologies and methodologies
  • General knowledge of electrical engineering a plus
  • General knowledge of IT systems and broadcast-related software a plus
  • Self-starter with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal with strong quantitative and organizational skills
  • Ability to implement and meet deadlines and manage projects efficiently.
  • Ability to influence and partner with internal and external teams to deliver tactical and strategic solutions.
  • Committed team player with can-do attitude and willingness to take on any tasks required in the moment.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Strong problem solving skills and the ability to communicate complex principles in non-technical terms
  • Comfortable working in a high-paced live environment and live studio shows
  • Possess a variety of skills to troubleshoot; On-Air, In Person, Telephone/Email Support, Control Room operations
  • A passion for Horse Racing preferred
  • International experience preferred


Summary Of Physical Requirements And Work Environment

The Director, TV Technicial Operations must be willing to be based in NY metro area for 10 months per year and willing to relocate to Saratoga Springs, NY for two months per year. In addition, the qualiifed candidate must be willing to travel to remote broadcast locations.

Pay Range / Salary: $130,000 - $150,000
