Director, Traffic

The Chicago Sports Network (CHSN) is seeking an experienced television Director of Traffic. This position will oversee a traffic department of three with the primary objective of insertion of commercial advertising time, paid programming, time buys and direct response inventory. The insertion will be for multiple feeds including inner market, outer market, plus channel and potentially multiple free to air broadcast channels.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Create and distribute traffic logs for multiple feeds in Chicago and the outer market
  • Work closely with the sales management team and the program director to traffic commercial time, DR, time buys and paid programming
  • Manage a traffic department staff of three including setting expectations, work evaluation and timely job review
  • Work with the traffic team to build daily logs, receive and coordinate daily revise traffic instructions, advertising sales order insertion for both local and national sales orders and other responsibilities as needed by the channel
  • Work with clients and agencies to coordinate commercial copy, traffic instructions, time buys and paid programming
  • Work closely with Master Control vendor to ensure all logs, graphic enhancements, features, etc. are properly programmed in live game broadcasts
  • Works with buyers to resolve discrepancies on vendor invoices post-air
  • Maintains solid working relationships with other department managers that directly affect Traffic, including sales, finance, programming, game operations, etc.
  • Work with multiple stakeholders, including but not limited to master control and broadcast stations in both Chicago and the outer market to coordinate log assimilation and cue tone insertions
  • Provides training, development, and guidance to junior level traffic staff
  • Execute plans, strategies and other assigned duties as set for by station management
  • Foster a culture within the advertising sales department of creativity, teamwork, productivity, empowerment and adherence to the network’s core values

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 8+ years’ traffic management experience with a regional sports network or major market broadcast station
  • Strong working knowledge of the Wide Orbit traffic systems and an understanding of the daily working relationship with remote Master Control
  • Traffic experience in live sports preferred
  • An understanding of cue tone technology and insertion preferred
  • Exceptional organizational skills
  • Ability to maintain high level of attention to detail on all multiple projects simultaneously
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, work well under pressure with minimal supervision, and adapt on the fly to changing business demands
  • Excellent problem-solving skills

The Chicago Sports Network (CHSN) will launch in October across multiple platforms.

The network will air more than 300 live games annually and include pre-and post-game

coverage while showing multisport programming 24 hours a day. CHSN will broadcast

from studios located in both Chicago’s United Center and Guaranteed Rate Field. The

Network will begin airing Blackhawk and Bulls games in October and White Sox games

beginning in 2025.
