Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from accredited university
Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned
Knowledge of overall operation of theatre program
Knowledge of state, UIL, TETA, JITS and ITS policies governing theatre activities
Knowledge of the International Thespian Society bylaws, organization, and activities
Three Years Teaching And Theatre Directing/technical Experience Preferred
General knowledge of design & delivery issues related to alignment for best results in student achievement
Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
Strong organizational, public relations, communication, and interpersonal skills
Student teaching or approved internship
Physically able to monitor student discipline and progress and meet other student needs as required
Physically able to move about the room to perform formative assessments and adequately facilitate small and large group instruction
Primary Purpose
Direct and manage the overall theatre program for the campus and district. Provide students with an opportunity to participate in extracurricular theatre activities and ensure compliance with all state and district requirements. Plan and administer theatre activities in accordance with campus and district expectations. Plan and prepare to provide students the opportunity to achieve district, region, and state recognition.
Major Duties And Responsibilities
SMART Board, computer, printer, copier, overhead projector, DVD/VCR, other specialized equipment that is particularly unique to the teaching assignment.
Working Conditions
Frequent district and occasional statewide travel; prolonged and irregular hours; outdoor and indoor work; exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather. Standing for long periods of time. Frequent stooping, bending, pulling and pushing, ie relocating stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment. The level of mobility required depends upon the grade level of teaching assignment(s) and requirements thereof. Must maintain emotional control under stress.

Major Duties And Responsibilities
- Comply with all Secondary Teacher Major Duties and Responsibilities.
- Direct junior high school theatre students in various educational theatre components including, but not limited to: acting, costuming, make-up, set design and construction, lighting, sound, technical, and directing.
- Establish performance/participation requirements, enforce academic requirements, and verify each student’s eligibility to participate in theatre activities.
- Provide for student participation at extracurricular theatre events, including various performance venues.
- Support theatre booster club activities, if applicable.
- Recommend practices/procedures to improve program and implement.
- Compile budgets and cost estimates based on documented program needs; ensure that programs are cost effective and funds are managed wisely.
- Coordinate fundraising activities and manage funds.
- Maintain current inventory of all fixed assets within department.
- Oversee process of cleaning, repairing, and storing of all theatre equipment, props, costume components, etc.
- Develop and implement plans for theatre program and show written evidence of preparation as required.
- Accompany and supervise students at theatre activities trips and arrange transportation for off campus events.
- Assist with recruitment, selection, training, supervision, and evaluation of assistant theatre director(s), if applicable.
- Work to provide campus, District, and community awareness of theatre activities and performances.
- Provide supervisory leadership and management to all component groups within theatre program.
- Engage and plan with high school theatre director(s) to align program activities with “cluster” high school theatre program(s).
- Actively participate in District theatre performance and training opportunities, as requested.
- Oversee process of cleaning, repairing, and storing of all theatre equipment, props, costume components, etc.
- Present to the public in evening productions a minimum of two scripted plays or musicals per year, or a combination thereof, which incorporate after school rehearsals, ticket sales, promotions, printed programs, etc.
- Operate and provide training to all campus users on the lighting and sound components of the performance area.
- Sponsor a chapter of the International Thespian Society, including its bylaws and activities, and sponsor a chapter if appropriate.
- Administer and supervise duties of Assistant Theatre Director(s) and/or adult volunteers assisting with productions
- Administer and supervise all booster club activities, if applicable
- Prepare annual program budget, and disburse funds in accordance to District policy
- Supervise assigned teacher aide(s) and student teacher(s)
