Director, Sustainability & Decarbonization

Summary Of Position

Responsible for overseeing planning and execution of Civitas’ industry-leading ESG platform. This is a highly visible role that includes periodic interaction with the Civitas Board of Directors and potentially media/government stakeholders. This individual will oversee the development, implementation, and monitoring of initiatives aimed at reducing the environmental footprint and promoting sustainable practices across all aspects of the organization's operations.

Primary Job Responsibilities

  • Regular interfacing with EHS for carbon accounting.
  • Execution of annual ESG duties to include project lead in preparation of SASB disclosures, accounting, planning and execution of appropriate offset purchases and project lead in preparation of the annual Civitas Corporate Sustainability Report.
  • Execution of a broad spectrum of ESG major projects as well as participation in the negotiation of commercial terms.
  • Work with Field Operations
  • Help clarify their organization’s point of view to its main audience
  • Manage the sustainability department budget
  • Lead the development of comprehensive sustainability and decarbonization strategies aligned with the organization's goals and values.
  • Conduct thorough assessments of current environmental impacts and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Stay updated on industry best practices, emerging trends, and regulatory requirements related to sustainability and decarbonization.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including executives, department heads, and employees, to foster a culture of sustainability and integrate sustainable practices into all aspects of the organization.
  • Build and maintain relationships with external stakeholders, such as government agencies, NGOs, suppliers, and customers, to advance sustainability initiatives and partnerships.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant environmental regulations and standards at local, national, and international levels.
  • Develop and implement internal policies, procedures, and guidelines to support sustainable practices and mitigate environmental risks.
  • Identify opportunities for reducing carbon emissions and improving energy efficiency throughout the organization's operations.
  • Implement strategies to transition to renewable energy sources and promote the adoption of clean technologies.
  • Monitor and report on key performance indicators related to carbon emissions, energy consumption, and renewable energy usage.
  • Work closely with procurement and supply chain teams to assess and enhance the sustainability of the organization's supply chain.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to promote ethical sourcing, reduce waste, and optimize transportation logistics.
  • Conduct regular environmental impact assessments to evaluate the organization's carbon footprint, water usage, waste generation, and other relevant metrics.
  • Prepare and publish sustainability reports detailing progress, achievements, and areas for improvement.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to raise awareness and transparency regarding the organization's sustainability efforts.

Knowledge/Skills/Competencies

  • Follow safe operating practices and ensure compliance with CIVI Environment, Safety & Regulatory requirements.
  • Assure work performed adheres to CIVI standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Knowledge of Governmental Regulatory Laws and Regulations

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Organizes and oversees the schedules, work, and productivity of the team.
  • Manages department efficiently and in accordance with departmental goals.
  • Evaluate and recognize the achievements of team members, celebrating successes and providing constructive feedback for improvement when necessary.
  • Delegate tasks and responsibilities effectively, empowering team members to take ownership of their work and develop their skills.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, sustainability, engineering, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in sustainability management, with a focus on decarbonization and environmental stewardship
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in Oil and Gas
  • Project Management experience is required.
  • Highly detail-oriented, has a demonstrated history of project management success.
  • Outstanding communication skills and a desire to learn all aspects of the emerging and constantly evolving ESG discipline.
  • Strong understanding of environmental regulations, carbon accounting methodologies, and sustainable business practices.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing successful sustainability strategies in a corporate setting.
  • Certification in sustainability (e.g., LEED, ISO 14001) is a plus.

Travel Requirements

  • Work is performed at a CIVI location Tues-Thurs with an option to work remotely on Mondays and Fridays as business needs allow and with manager approval.
  • Schedule: traditional 40-hour workweek or alternative schedule of 9 hour works days M-Thurs and 4-hour workdays Friday, as business needs allow and with manager approval.
  • Travel required to the Civitas field locations.

Base Pay Range: $201,500 - $243,300
