Overview Of The Office And Position

The Office of Student Housing and Residence Life provides an engaging, student-centered community within an inclusive, safe environment focusing on student success and supporting the educational experience of each resident. The office serves as the hub for the approximately 350 students who choose to live on-campus in one of two housing options: traditional residence hall-style and apartment-style.

The Director of Student Housing and Residence Life is a key member of the Student Services team which provides programs, activities, and services supporting student learning and success. This is a 12-month position that will oversee the university’s residence halls and apartments and reports to the Dean of Students.

Job Duties, Include, But Are Not Limited To:

  • Provide overall guidance and leadership to the Office of Student Housing and Residence Life.
  • Operate and manage all residential facilities.
  • Improve the overall quality of life for students residing on campus.
  • Oversee the planning and coordination of social and educational programs for residents.
  • Administer budgets.
  • Hire, train, and evaluate staff that includes professional live-in Coordinators, an Administrative Assistant, Resident Assistants, and maintenance staff.
  • Oversight of housing applications and room assignment process.
  • Order housing furniture and equipment.
  • Oversight of Mail and Package distribution to student residents
  • Work closely with the director of food services to provide a successful food services program.
  • Work closely with the business office in regard to collections and payments of residents.
  • Work closely with physical facilities to coordinate maintenance and renovations.
  • Work closely with custodial services.
  • Work closely with the Faculty in Residence.
  • Oversee judicial affairs and disciplinary actions in university housing facilities.
  • Respond to residents’ concerns and suggestions.
  • Review and update contracts and policies.
  • Serve on various university committees.
  • Responsible for annual institutional assessment for the department.
  • Perform other related duties as needed to support the goals of the department and mission of the university.
  • Due to the nature of the position, the Director must either reside on or in reasonable proximity to campus.
  • Has responsibility for the on-call system for professional staff and duty system for paraprofessional staff, including serving in an on-call capacity when needed
  • Serve in a Crises/Emergency response role in support of the department and the institution. This may include, but is not limited to fire watches and student and campus emergencies

Minimum Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Three years of experience working in residence life at an institution of higher education.
  • Supervisory experience.

Required Skills

  • Experience administering budgets.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with university colleagues
  • Ability to work well with diverse populations
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Willingness to be on-call and work evenings and weekends as necessary. interpersonal skills including excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and ability to be insured under the University’s policy.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree
  • Five or more years of residence life experience at an institution of higher education.

Salary Range: Budgeted at $50,960 annually plus benefits. Benefits include a partially- furnished 4-bedroom on-campus apartment and an on-campus meal plan in addition to the overall University benefits. Opportunity for performance compensation subject to approval and budgetary availability.
