Reporting Relationship(s)This position reports to the Vice President for Student Affairs/Dean of Students. This position supervises the Student Engagement Coordinator and student office assistants.
Position SummaryThe Director of Student Engagement develops, publicizes, and implements innovative student-focused programs and wellness initiatives that enhance student life, enrich the campus community, and support the University’s overall retention and engagement goals. Responsible for the operational management of the Vi and Paul Loo Student Center. Assumes primary responsibility for student government and club advising, event programming, and recreational equipment rental facility. The Director also organizes and supports student leadership development initiatives either through the department and/or in collaboration with the Marianist Leadership Center and other departments. The Director of Student Engagement assists the Vice President for Student Affairs/Dean of Students with various programs sponsored by the Division of Student Affairs.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Program Management and Administration (90%)
Professional and Administrative
Manage the day-to-day operation of the Office of Student Engagement and the Vi & Paul Loo Student Center
Supervise the Student Engagement Coordinator and part-time student employees
Ensure appropriate training is provided for all staff
Monitor budgets for Student Engagement department and student organizations
Support the Student Engagement Coordinator with oversight of the University Van reservation program
Review and revise Student Engagement website on a regular basis
Actively participate in other Student Affairs Division initiatives
Participate in fall and spring New Student Orientation programs and events, as needed
Collect student learning outcomes data through various assessments and prepare reports for appropriate committees and administrators
Leadership
Coordinate and oversee student leadership development initiatives across campus
Work collaboratively with the Marianist Leadership Center to support student leadership initiatives
Develop, schedule, and implement formal and informal student leadership training opportunities for students
Provide leadership support to members of Chaminade Student Government Association, Programming Board, and Allocations Board
Serve as advisor for the Chaminade Student Government Association (CSGA)
Train and support registered student organization officers and their staff/faculty advisors
Develop partnerships and collaborations with other campus departments and programs to promote leadership initiatives and maximize student involvement
Student Activities
Organize special events, lectures, musical performances, and other enrichment activities of interest to the University student community
Collaborate with staff in Student Affairs and across campus to develop programs and services that enhance student involvement and retention
Develop marketing strategies to promote campus activities and services, including posting events to the University Events Calendar and working with staff in the Office of Communications and Marketing
Ensure online forms, information, tools, and resources pertaining to student activities and leadership are up to date (includes Student Organization Handbook, Advisor Handbook, forms for club/organization use, Presence software, etc.)
Wellness
Work with the Student Engagement Coordinator to organize and plan wellness programs, including Recreational Sports/Intramural programs
Collaborate with staff from across the University to create new programs and approaches to student wellness
Other Tasks as Assigned by the Vice President for Student Affairs/Dean of Students (10%)

Education And Experience
Minimum
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
Two to four years’ full-time experience in a student development area in higher education.
Ability to mentor and engage students.
Preferred
Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Psychology, Counseling, or Education is strongly preferred.
Budget management experience preferred.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact and work with individuals at all levels of the university
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, faculty, students and community members of diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google or related software
Highly organized with strong personal management skills in order to meet the needs of a dynamic environment
Meticulous attention to detail
Ability to meet deadlines
Ability to interpret financial data and prepare budgets and financial grant reports
Attention to detail with a focus on thoroughness and quality

Physical Requirements
Duties involve light work in an office and community setting and requires a minimum of physical effort with intermittent sitting, standing, climbing stairs, and walking inclines. Must be able to lift 20 pounds, walk the campus with ease, and have excellent motor skills. Must have finger dexterity. Must be able to communicate information and ideas so that others will understand.
Other Requirements
This is a full time, exempt position. Forty hours per week (M-F) will be the general rule. However, depending on the project cycles and workflow demands of the department, additional hours or workday schedule changes may be occasionally required. Must be willing and able to work occasional nights and weekends and have a varying schedule when required
