Position: Director, Strategy and Market Expansion, Industrial Operations and Life Sciences

Location: Suburban Philadelphia, PA – Hybrid work schedule (50% on-site)

Our client is a well-established, privately held global corporation. As Director of Strategy and Market Expansion, you'll drive growth in our client's Life Sciences and Industrial sectors, shaping their future success. Reporting to the Chief Commercial Officer, you'll lead a team with room for expansion and play a pivotal role in our client's commercial strategy.


Our ideal candidate will have experience in Life Sciences, Industrial, and/or Energy mid/downstream markets. Experience with clean tech (e.g., hydrogen, battery, etc.) and advanced materials (e.g., high-performance thermoplastics, elastomers, composites, etc.) or similar (e.g., chemicals) is a plus and will enable a successful transfer of skills into our client’s environment.

Compensation:

  • Competitive base salary starting at $180,000 up to $220,000] annually.
  • Annual Sales Incentive Program target of $70k plus LTI eligibility 20% of base (3-year vesting).
  • 20 days of paid time off (PTO).

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute 5-year and 10-year plans consistent with corporate goals and company policies.
  • Conducts periodic status reviews of strategic goals and objectives to identify roadblocks to progress. Directs analytics function to define data-driven methodologies to analyze business performance metrics and process improvement options. Recalibrates as needed.
  • In partnership with marketing, learns, analyzes, and visualizes information about industry and market trends, expansion opportunities, competitive threats, and possible business opportunities.
  • Guides discussions and contributes insight derived from knowledge and analysis of the industry, roadmap, competitors, and company and product value to recommend entering new markets, developing products, or stopping production of existing products.
  • Identify and quantify the potential contribution of major business/industry segments based on market growth and competitive position.
  • Leads the creation of 5-year plans for underserved and new markets by collaborating with product line GMs, R&D, and Engineering directors.
  • Provides mentorship to harness the softer skills required of the team to facilitate a standardized strategic selling approach to the industry, create deep and loyal partnerships within accounts, and drive their teams to achieve their market and product share gains successfully.
  • Supports the Account Management Center of Excellence leader in facilitating the strategic account management process, including selection, planning, and review for all assigned strategic accounts and sites.
  • Partners with Business Unit General Managers & other key functional directors to coordinate plans to implement the business strategy; works with colleagues to identify what each department needs to do to make the collective go-to-market strategy work.
  • Translate all industry trends, needs, and requirements into the organization’s product line development and operations teams.
  • Responsible for the industry demand plans, including converting Industry Accounts into Integrated Business Planning Processes. Creates forecasts to translate all market trends into an integrated demand plan.
  • Advances industry expertise and external brand recognition of the industry segments.
  • Ensures active deal (price) management follows list pricing methodologies from the Product Lines.


Primary Position Requirement:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, with preference for technical or Engineering background; Master’s degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive commercial, strategic marketing, and product management experience, including global experience, is required.
  • Preference for proven consultative or solution-based commercial experience, preferably within Life Sciences, Industrial, or Energy mid/downstream.
  • Experience with clean tech (i.e., hydrogen, battery, etc.) and with advanced materials (high-performance thermoplastics, elastomers, composites, etc.) or similar (i.e., chemicals) is preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities are required, including people development/coaching, objective setting, and performance management skills in commercial/sales. Experience leading a small team of direct reports and growing a team is highly preferred.
  • Technical Knowledge – Understands the technical applications of products in the markets served.
  • Ability to manage effectively in a multicultural, international environment and mobilize high-performance teams is needed.
  • Developing and executing a strategic plan with a results-driven, driven, focused approach is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate, present, and influence credibly and effectively at all levels of the organization, including delegating tasks and holding others accountable.
  • Proven ability to translate market trends into sales forecasts.
  • Proven ability to translate market trends into industry expansion plans.
  • Excellent listening, negotiation, and presentation skills
  • Travel Requirements: 30-50% (with 30% being the norm), domestic and international, including a valid driver’s license.
