Your Purpose

As Director, Security you will plan and execute Brightline’s public safety mission by developing relationships with law enforcement partners and organizing a strategy of enforcement and education to promote rail safety.

Reporting to the AVP, Safety & Security, you will oversee multiple facilities and geographical locations in your South Florida area of responsibility (AOR) from Miami to Boca Raton. In this critically important role, you will respond to any issue or delay with a Brightline train or incident affecting the corridor and coordinate with on-scene responders & Brightline staff to include our risk management team during and after incidents. Your Role


  • Team Leadership: Lead a team of management personnel and front-line teammates to carry out department objectives and enforce company policies. Establish department safety goals and continually evaluate performance, adjusting tactics as necessary. Review, implement, and update standard operating procedures.
  • Security and Safety Collaboration: Proactively collaborate with transit agency partners, including South Florida Regional Transportation Authority (Tri-Rail), Miami-Dade Transit, and Broward County Transit, on security and safety matters. Communicate and coordinate with Brightline senior executives and other stakeholders. Oversee physical plant security for stations in your AOR by ensuring that hardware, technology, policies, and teammate training promote a secure environment. Coordinate with all business lines within Brightline, including transportation, construction, mechanical, stations/on board team, engineering, marketing, HR, legal, risk management, finance, and commercial.
  • Incident Response and Investigation: Respond to any issue or delay with a Brightline train or incident affecting the corridor. Liaise with first responders such as medical examiner’s office, law enforcement, and Fire/EMS departments. Perform a thorough investigation for Brightline in the event of an incident or criminal act in a timely manner. Coordinate with on-scene responders, including Brightline staff and risk management team during and after incidents.
  • Continuity Planning and Compliance: Establish continuity and planning efforts with external partners as defined by senior leadership. Ensure compliance and effectiveness of security screening efforts, security of equipment and facilities, as well as the right-of-way and stations in accordance with established policy and procedures.
  • Site Visits and Policy Enforcement: Perform regular site visits to the stations and facilities to ensure Policies & Procedures, Post Orders, Uniform, Site Safety, and Brightline Standards are being met at each site. Be able to document said findings and take corrective action, including discipline and coaching. Promote and maintain positive field officer morale.
  • Staffing, Reporting, and Documentation: Prepare and complete detailed staffing schedules, time sheets, compliance reports, incident reports, and weekly/monthly KPIs. Provide preliminary data for criminal and administrative investigations. Collect and deliver all necessary documents from/to sites. Maintain and update all reports in the computer database, including Daily Activities Reports, Incidents, and Aided Cases.
  • Contract Management and Value Optimization: Understand and enforce contracts with security contractors and equipment vendors. Recommend opportunities to drive value for the company by engaging alternate contractors or improving contract terms. Develop strategies to improve fare enforcement, balancing revenue targets with a guest experience-oriented atmosphere.
  • Productivity Optimization and Training: Establish work schedules for employees to maximize productivity in relation to key performance indicators. Participate in Brightline’s Safety Campaign through Operation Lifesaver and other training. Conduct On-the-Job Training (OJT) as needed for new officers or refresher training for current teammates.

You


  • Have a minimum of a 5+ years of relevant site/field supervisory security experience within one of these categories:
    • Previous Law Enforcement leadership background with a focus on Investigations, and/or community policing preferred AND/OR
    • Prior Fire Department leadership experience AND/OR
    • Emergency Management Coordinator experience
  • Ability to travel throughout the Brightline footprint from Miami to Boca Raton and maintain support for the South Florida operation on a regular basis.
  • Available to respond 24/7 & have the ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed except during designated rest periods.
  • Possess a valid Florida Driver's License & maintain a clean driving record as well as insurance coverage that meets internal Company Policies.
  • Possess a positive attitude, strong customer service, and leadership skills. Excel in developing team momentum, enthusiasm, and pride, across departments and ranks.
  • Ability to work well under pressure & meticulous attention to detail including strong observation and written documentation skills required.
  • Ability to perform security officer-related duties as needed and be knowledgeable of all site Post Orders. May be required to fill in as an extra security relief in the event a post is not filled at any station.
  • Experience in report writing, evidence preservation, and chain of custody.
  • Technically savvy in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to cover duties of the Assistant Vice President of Safety and Security Officer as needed to ensure round-the-clock leadership coverage.

Preferred Skills


  • Possess a valid Florida Concealed Weapons License and/or HR 218 Certification that is current and maintained.
  • Working knowledge of rail transportation & FRA Regulations is highly desirable.
