The Director, Provider Engagement is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to engage and support healthcare providers that treat people with MS along their MS journey, foster their knowledge of the National MS Society and ensuring they have the resources and connections to help people affected by MS to live their best lives. This role will focus on fostering strong relationships with healthcare providers, optimizing their interactions and connection to the National MS Society, and driving initiatives to engage healthcare providers with organizational strategic goals.


The Director, Provider Engagement serves as the lead for the Healthcare Access Team provider councils, Partners in MS Care and Centers for Comprehensive MS Care. This role oversees strategic goals of these programs and ensures that the application process, work products, and vision for the programs align with the Society’s overall strategic priorities. This individual is a strategic thinker with a proactive approach to problem-solving and relationship building.


Essential Function/Responsibility

Relationship management (40%)

  • Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with healthcare providers across various specialties and regions.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for external relationships for MS Partners in Care, Centers of Comprehensive MS Care and MS Provider Councils, addressing concerns, facilitating communication, and ensuring their needs are met.
  • Organize and lead regular meetings, in-services, forums, and other virtual events to foster collaboration and partnerships with external parties.
  • Develop and distribute regular communications to keep MS Partners in Care, Centers of Comprehensive MS Care, and MS Provider Councils informed about organizational updates, policies, and opportunities.
  • Represent the organization at industry conferences, seminars, and other events to promote provider engagement and network with key stakeholders.

Initiative development and implementation (25%)

  • Working with colleagues from the Healthcare access team, implement programs that enhance provider knowledge of MS and MS treatment.
  • Working in collaboration with the Director of Clinical Workforce Training and Education and the Senior Manager of Clinical Training and Education, run and facilitate initiatives aimed at improving provider training, and continuous education.
  • Lead efforts to recognize and reward providers for their contributions and achievements.
  • Develop key metrics to gauge success of provider directed initiatives such as MS Partners in Care, Centers of Comprehensive MS care and other programs to ensure they are meeting strategic goals.

Operational Oversight (30%)

  • Ensure that all provider engagement activities comply with relevant regulations and organizational policies.
  • Work closely with internal departments, such as marketing, operations, and IT, to support engagement initiatives.
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of tools and resources that facilitate effective provider engagement.

Strategic planning and execution (10%)

  • Develop and implement comprehensive engagement strategies tailored to the needs of healthcare providers.
  • Collaborate with Healthcare Access team leadership and cross-functionally to align provider engagement initiatives with the organization's strategic objectives.
  • Monitor and analyze engagement metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of strategies and adjust as necessary.


Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5-8 years of relevant experience in healthcare provider relations, engagement or in a similar role in a healthcare provider trade association or similar healthcare nonprofit.
  • Substantial familiarity and understanding of the healthcare industry and provider operations.
  • Demonstrated subject matter expertise on healthcare access issues; minimum of 5+ years of experience working directly for or with healthcare stakeholders (i.e. payers, purchases, producers, and providers).
  • Ability to apply professional discretion and judgment to sensitive situations involving a diverse set of stakeholders with competing priorities.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing successful engagement strategies.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret data and make data-driven decisions.
  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple, high-touch provider initiatives simultaneously.
  • Strong interpersonal, emotional intelligence, and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.


Technical/Other:

  • Commitment to the mission, vision, cultural values, and expectations of the National MS Society.
  • Proficiency in using CRM software and other engagement tools.
  • Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Society and database systems
  • Availability to work occasional nights and weekends to support events, committee meetings, etc.


Compensation & Benefits Info:

Estimated hiring compensation range for this role is $70,000- $82,000 based on our average compensation schedule. Final offers will be based on candidate geographic location and consider career experience and may vary from this range due to these and other factors.
