JOB TITLE: Director, Technical Services


POSITION SUMMARY


The Director of Technical Services will be responsible for leading Intrepid’s technical services team in support of Intrepid’s operations, projects and business development efforts. This role will provide strategic guidance, specialist advice and associated tools, processes and methodologies to implement integrated engineering projects and project management across Intrepid. This will include developing and supporting practices to evaluate, measure, monitor, and manage business, operational and reputational technical risks affecting Intrepid. 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide strategic leadership and direction to Intrepid’s engineering and project management efforts to include risk assessments across the operation.
  • Leads a team of engineers and technical experts, including external consultants, responsible for the delivery of large and / or complex engineering projects.
  • Technical expertise over key engineering functions including resource modeling, reserves & resources, mine engineering, geotechnical, tailings and water, mineral processing, asset management, operational technology, business improvement and operational support
  • Direct technical services team in support of strategic initiatives and longer-term business planning needs
  • Serve as a technical expert, leading efforts to identify, develop and support technical evaluations of new business opportunities
  • Provide guidance for preparation of budgets by direct reports
  • Engage appropriate Intrepid technical personnel to coordinate reviews of technical evaluations, project engineering and project execution plans
  • Leads the resource evaluation and mine planning team, which includes resource modeling, mine engineering, long-term planning, geotechnical, hydro, tailings and strategic resource development
  • Provide data driven guidance and technical support to achieve better operational performance across safety, productivity, efficiency, quality and compliance
  • Identify technical opportunities for improvement in surface and underground mine operations across all operating sites
  • Significant experience with regulatory management
  • Serve as an internal technical resource and provides guidance and mentorship to junior-level staff
  • Drives periodic reviews of technical services practices in critical Intrepid functional areas; monitor progress in addressing identified risk, compliance, and control weaknesses.
  • Develop and keep updated the 5-year year operation plan for all three facilities, including capital and operating cost evaluations.
  • Work closely with operations to solve technical issues and execute critical projects.
  • Develop presentations to senior management to communicate the state of technical projects at Intrepid.
  • Daily interaction with all functional headquarters and department leaders, field leadership and senior management. Maintains regular interaction with personnel involved in technical services functions.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date technical services files, records, and documentation
  • Maintain the integrity and confidentiality of technical services files and records.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering discipline or closely related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 15 years demonstrated experience managing technical personnel required.

 

SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES


  • Experience successfully managing technical consultants required.
  • Experience working with federal, state, and local regulators required.
  • Demonstrated experience managing projects in the minerals industry preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including presentation, facilitation and negotiation skills.
  • Proficiency with technical writing, office automation, discipline-specific design software, technology, and tools.
  • Experienced with providing critical review for documents and preparing technical deliverables and plans with a high degree of complexity.
  • Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, computations, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety.
  • Must be flexible to a variety of schedules to meet business needs and able to prioritize responsibilities and quickly adapt to change in the work environment.
  • Must be highly proficient in reading, analyzing and interpreting technical and design information.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite of PC software including MS Project.
  • Self-motivated and exceptional work ethic.
  • Valid driver’s license required with driving record that meets Intrepid’s criteria.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of highly sensitive information.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Comfortable interacting with senior management.
  • Strong understanding of business processes, compliance programs and audit processes.
  • Independent worker; accountable for and skilled in exercising sound judgment.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

 

Work is typically performed indoors in an office environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. Incumbents must be able to perform work that requires typing, reading, communicating, sitting for prolonged periods of time, standing, and walking.  


The employee:

·        Is regularly required to use hands to type, touch, handle, or feel

·        Is frequently required to stand and reach with hands and arms

·        Is occasionally required to walk and climb or balance

·        May occasionally be required to lift and/or move up to 15 pounds


In the event that the incumbent visits an operations worksite, personal protective equipment including but not limited to head protection, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety shoes, and flame-resistant clothing may be required.


This position requires 25% - 40% travel to Intrepid operating locations in Utah and New Mexico.


COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

 

Targeted salary range for this position is $190K to $215K annually. Salary commensurate with experience and skill set.
