Sustainability Director – Remote

As a key member of the ESG team, the Sustainability Director will be responsible for strategy, reporting, internal and external engagement (with key stakeholders such as business development, account management and customers), and working with cross-functional management teams to integrate sustainability and diversity, equity and inclusion within Direct Travel.


This position will work closely with multiple individuals within Direct Travel and report to EVP Global Supplier, Management, Consulting and ESG Lead. This team member will play a role in Direct Travel’s internal Direct Impact program and efforts supporting the Direct ATPI Halo service.


Expedition Expectations

  • Oversee and drive evolution of Direct Impact – Direct Travel’s ESG program via subject matter experts across the organization and its affiliates (including Creative Group, Human Resources, Supplier Relations, Procurement, etc.)
  • Establish data points and ensure accurate and timely reporting on all ESG initiatives utilizing multiple data resources within Direct Travel
  • Create, manage and report on committees and project team activities
  • Manage contract staff maximizing available resources
  • Liaison with ATPI CSO and Creative Group sustainability project manager and other sustainability leads as assigned within the organization
  • Administration of Direct ATPI Halo: Sales, Recommendation, Administration, client presentations
  • Complete annual certification assessments as directed (Ecovadis, CDP, SAFSi)
  • Industry involvement (ex: GBTA, BTN committees) as available
  • Serve as subject matter expert for sales and marketing initiatives (RFP answers, Direct Impact Annual Report, Client presentations, UN SBT, Global DirectATPI position, Quarterly company update, etc)
  • Drive governance of policies around sustainability and DEI.


Passport to Success

  • Degree in Environmental Science and/or Sustainable Tourism Management AND a minimum of 5 years of experience in positions relevant to ESG or the travel industry OR (b) minimum of five years of experience directly in travel industry
  • Excellent communication skills – verbal, written and presentation
  • Position is remote. Person must be self-motivated, able to work independently, and possess excellent project management skills
  • Comfortable with managing relationships with all level associates in the organization
  • Working knowledge of MS products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams)
  • Must be able to lawfully work within the US and have unrestricted work authorization for US
