Director of Software Engineering, Card Spend

Tapcheck is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Engineering, Card Spend, to lead the development of our new card system. This role will involve collaborating with program managers like Marqueta and Galileo, building and leading a dedicated engineering team, and driving the successful implementation and growth of our card program. The Director will report directly to the VP of Engineering and work closely with the Product Manager to build card programs that deliver payroll cards, providing benefits to our employee users.

What You'll Do:

  • Recruit, mentor, and lead a high-performing engineering team focused on card spend
  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of a new card system in collaboration with program and product managers
  • Ensure the card program meets regulatory, security, and compliance requirements
  • Oversee the integration of card programs with existing systems and ensure seamless operation
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including Product, QA, and Operations, to align engineering efforts with business goals
  • Ensure the scalability, performance, and reliability of the card system
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and technologies to keep Tapcheck's card program at the forefront of innovation
  • Develop and oversee the implementation of the roadmap, aligning with company goals and objectives
  • Collaborate closely with the Product Manager to ensure product alignment and successful delivery of payroll card benefits
  • Provide required production support to ensure the smooth operation and reliability of the card system


What You'll Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Proven experience in building and launching successful card programs
  • Strong knowledge of the card industry, including regulatory and compliance requirements
  • Proven track record with 6+ years as a hands-on technical leader
  • 5+ years of experience in backend engineering and development
  • Extensive experience in cloud computing, particularly with Azure, including processing high volume traffic and mission-critical services
  • Proven experience attracting, hiring, retaining, and leading top engineering talent
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality results on time
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders
  • Deep understanding of software development, architecture, and engineering best practices
  • Experience with API integration, payment processing, and financial technology
  • Knowledge of security standards and practices relevant to card programs

Compensation: $215,000 per year + equity. The actual base salary varies on job level and will depend on numerous factors such as: location, experience, training, knowledge. and skills. Tapcheck reserves the right to amend, change, alter, and revise pay ranges and benefits offerings at any time. All applicants acknowledge that by applying to this position you understand that this specific pay range is contingent upon meeting the qualifications and requirements of the role, and for the successful completion of the interview selection and process. It is at the Company's discretion to determine what pay is provided to a candidate within the range associated with the role.
