Director of Software Engineering

The Director of Software Engineering will be responsible for this maintaining this gaming company's backend infrastructure, and reducing data storage and compute costs. Their products process high volumes of data in real-time and are based on an Elixir and Phoenix backend. To be successful you will possess a mix of experience in the following areas:

• High technical knowledge of Elixir/Phoenix
• Strong people management
• Change management

From a technical perspective you will need experience in Elixir, Phoenix, Oban, Postgres, Redis, and cloud computing; a big part of the teams responsibility is writing APIs with GraphQL, so solid experience here is a plus. There is a skills gap in the team which will need you to be hands on while upskilling the existing team. The backend and frontend teams have previously operated in siloed way, which is becoming more integrated, so a unifying presence is needed to bring together a cohesive team with no elitism.

Experience required:

• BSc/MSc in Computer Science, Statistics or Mathematics
• 6+ years overall Backend engineer experience
• 3+ years with Elixir, Phoenix, Oban
• 3+ years with Postgres and Redis
• Cloud computing knowledge (GCP or AWS)

Ideally Based on-site in LA, Monday to Thursday (Friday remote) but open to someone in the San Francisco Bay area.

A definite focus will be put on when, how and why you have used Elixir at the first interview stage.
