Director of School Counseling

The Director of School Counseling will be responsible for the coordination and implementation of the elementary, middle, and high school counseling programs. In addition, the Director will be responsible for the performance of the counseling functions for the employees holding the position of School Counselor at CCA as well as the Supervisors of this program to include measuring performance through frequent and credible feedback, mid-year evaluations, and overall end-of-year evaluations. Finally, this position will be hyper-focused on ensuring that we are delivering on our mission of improving the unique educational opportunity to each of CCA learners.

This position requires the incumbent to report to and work from within one of CCA’s Family Service Centers located in Pennsylvania, on a 12-month, full-time basis. This position reports to the Provost of the High School.

The Director Of School Counseling Will

  • Organize, supervise, and evaluate the work of the school counselors at all grade levels k-12.
  • Interpret the guidance program to the principals, assistant principals, faculty, and families.
  • Work collaboratively with the Director of Career Readiness, all Principals and Special Education Directors to coordinate the implementation of the career readiness and counseling program.
  • Serve as the liaison between the school counselors and the Director of Career Readiness.
  • Hold consistently scheduled department meetings with the school counselors to communicate curriculum initiatives, share ideas, and plan for ongoing improvements.
  • Attend meetings with grade-span principals (K-5, 6-8, 9-12) and Provosts to discuss curriculum initiatives, share ideas, and plan for ongoing improvements.
  • Advise the Principals and Provosts regarding needs of learners.
  • Work with learners by ensuring that the counseling team is responsible for all aspects of the course selection process.
  • Support the technology and the quality and compliance departments regarding retention of academic records for all learners’ grades K-12, specifically transcripts and standardized test results/reports.
  • Ensure the creation and implementation of all learner orientation programs with input from Family Services, School Leadership, CCA staff, and families.
  • Ensure the collection and learner fulfillment of Act 158 graduation requirements.
  • Ensure all grading communication and requirements are fulfilled at the end of each quarter, semester, and end-of-year.
  • Work collaboratively with the Director of Student Services regarding but not limited to student response teams and other support services.
  • Serve as a member of the Safe2Say Team.
  • Coordinate communication with the school counselors and outside educational agencies and student placements when appropriate, e.g. Hospital placements for learners, etc.
  • Ensure the implementation and successful rollout for summer session enrollment process.
  • Advise the principals and Provosts of the need for additional guidance personnel and is responsible for the interviewing of candidates for school counselor positions.
  • Plan and deliver professional development activities for all school counselors. Planning for professional development is in collaboration with the Provosts.
  • Utilize data-driven approaches to assist in interpreting learner needs, track progress, and measure the effectiveness of the school counseling programs.
  • Utilize the resources of the commonwealth in developing and expanding guidance services and activities. The director works closely with community agencies interested in the full development of learners.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or as the need arises.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This is not a work from home position. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

Physical Demands

This is largely a sedentary role. Requires the ability to lift, squat, sit, bend, or stand as necessary. Ability to travel to other sites/locations as needed.

  • Working from a CCA Family Service Center on a full-time and regular basis

Required Education and Experience:

  • Master’s Degree in Counseling, Education or related area.
  • Pennsylvania Administrative PK-12 Certificate

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in school supervisory position/administration
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a School Counselor, preferably in a public school

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  • Valid PA Driver’s License
  • Appropriate Automobile Insurance Coverage
