It’s an exciting time to be a member of FusionSite as we rapidly grow and scale the company! To support our journey, we are seeking a Director of Safety to join our team.


Job Summary:

The Director of Safety is responsible for managing FusionSite safety and compliance programs by providing the needed tools, resources, and environments that support safe, efficient, and healthy behaviors and encourage team members to proactively manage their health and wellbeing.

The Director of Safety will be a people manager position that is responsible for ensuring the company’s safety and compliance policies and compliance with all applicable local and regional regulations by leveraging lean principles and Kaizens, and leading continuous improvement initiatives to reduce risk.


Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Possess a thorough understanding of FMCSA, DOT, OSHA. EPA local/regional regulations and company policy.
  • Manages FMCSA and DOT compliance program.
  • Provide guidance and oversight to ensure compliance to all applicable policies.
  • Measure sites’ performance against published requirements in policies. For all deficiencies, identify a plan for the site to implement and fix all identified deficiencies.
  • Deliver on-time and quality projects.
  • Analyze WHS metrics and review incident weekly and monthly incident trends to discover trends to rationalize the allocation of appropriate resources to areas where the safety risk is highest.
  • Perform frequent site safety audits to identify all non-compliance equipment and/or processes at the site. Implement solutions to eliminate exposure to these risks and prevent injury.
  • Audit record-keeping practices and entries to be aligned with standards and local regulations.
  • Audit the workplace organization and Associate behaviors to ensure that training, auditing and scoring methods are accurate and consistent.
  • Spend time at the site locations and seek input from teams, associates and leaders on safety program improvement opportunities. Ensure open communication on the status of progress and resolution against these suggestions. Ensure site leadership and team members are trained and knowledgeable about their responsibilities under each policy. Audit the quality, delivery (including qualifications of the trainer), and effectiveness of all required safety training.
  • Based in the Nashville Home Office location, required to travel intermittently up to 30% of the time.


Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Experience implementing lean principles and process improvement in an operational environment.
  • Experience in safety training, conducting safety audits and compliance, and delivery of world-class safety programs and systems.
  • Experience in program management and operations of highly technical teams.
  • Solid technical knowledge and ability to understand technical designs, challenges, and risks to optimize autonomous vehicles operations.
  • Must possess a passion and the ability to develop and grow colleagues to their highest potential.
  • Excellent skills in facilitating small and large groups and presenting on a wide variety of topics.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills to build trust and strong working relationships, effectively create and proofread documents and reports, and communicate to a diverse workforce.
  • Keen attention to detail to identify problems and processes that don’t comply with protocol
  • Critical/logical thinking to identify problems and provide solutions to ensure efficiency, safety, and quality.
  • Strong business insight and judgment, team orientation and collaborative style
  • Strong time management and organizational skills to plan, develop, coordinate resources, prioritize effectively, and maintain competing demands simultaneously with frequent interruptions and in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to ethically handle sensitive and confidential information with impartiality and professionalism.


Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Environment Health and Safety, Industrial Safety, or a related field
  • 4+ years of growing responsibilities in workplace health, safety and/or environmental programs in manufacturing, production, or service operations.
  • DOT CDL with On-Road Test Experience, preferred
  • OSHA 30-Hour Certificate Preferred, preferred


Physical Requirements:

  • Able to maintain very high proficiency and job standards while working in non-temperature controlled environments that includes exposure to heat, high humidity, and inclement weather
  • Able to work in an environment with moderate to loud noise levels
  • Able to use hand trucks, stairs, ramps, and docks.
  • Able to talk and hear, stand and walk, sit, reach with arms and hands, lift and carry, and use hands and fingers to handle or feel.
  • Able to frequently climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
  • Must have specific vision abilities that include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to judge distance
