Director of Quality

Responsibilities

• Mentor, develop, and support Quality Assurance & Food Safety manufacturing teams, acting as their direct supervisor.
• Set and communicate goals that align with company objectives and conduct annual performance reviews.
• Local, state, and federal regulations
• Quality assurance testing procedures and Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs)
• New product launches
• New line/equipment qualifications
• Continuous improvement, root cause analysis, and preventive actions
• Collaborate with Customer Care on consumer complaint handling, investigations, trend analysis, and action plans, ensuring quality targets are met and addressing negative trends in consumer complaints.
• Provide leadership and engage with cross-functional teams at all levels (site-specific and enterprise-wide).
• Work with peers across departments (supply chain, procurement, engineering, value creation, etc.) to plan, execute, monitor, and verify project implementation.
• Regularly visit internal manufacturing sites to collaborate, build culture, audit, and verify adherence to programs.
• Respond to and escalate quality and food safety incidents; guide facility teams in crisis management and response.
• Manage multiple projects simultaneously, delegating tasks as needed.
• Advise the Senior leadership on quality or food safety issues, providing potential solutions.
• Report QAFS KPIs, including:
• KPI development and education
• Action plans based on KPI results
• Verification of KPI accuracy
• Regularly review QAFS program outputs to ensure compliance and effectiveness, including in-process and finished goods attribute testing, consumer complaint data, site-level KPIs, and audit results.
• Serve as a backup to site QAFS leaders when necessary.
• Analyze QA data to suggest process improvements.
• Assist in inspecting food processing areas to ensure compliance with government and UQF regulations and standards.
• Work with facility leadership and associates to ensure QAFS programs are followed and associates are held accountable.
• Responsible for quality and food safety tasks and ensuring food safety in all actions and responsibilities.
• Follow food safety practices and all applicable requirements of the SQF System.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Outlook, databases, and business enterprise software.
• Ability to make decisions based on available information using risk-based principles.
• Capable of working well both in a team environment and independently.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in food science or a related field, or equivalent education and experience.
• 5-10 years of experience in food manufacturing procedures and equipment, with skills in analytical procedures.
• Knowledge of Federal and State food manufacturing regulations, especially the Food Safety Modernization Act and GFSI Standards.
• Extensive experience in preparing for and leading audits (internal, third-party, and regulatory).
• Strong understanding of continuous improvement methods, including root cause investigations, value stream mapping, SPC data analysis, and other value creation tools.
