The Director of Product Management is responsible for managing the product portfolio with the overall objective of meeting growth targets for revenue, market share and profitability. The incumbent is tasked with managing the full Life Cycle of the product portfolio beginning with strategy and new product introduction and ending with product discontinuation. This person will also develop the strategy for SWOT and competitive analysis, market analysis, articulation of the value proposition, key initiatives including resource requirements and financial projections.
Responsibilities:
This leader's primary responsibility is the development and execution of a winning strategy for the product line that supports the overall goals of the business.
The Strategy:
- Assessment of the macro factors in the market including growth rates, technical and regulatory trends, fashion trends etc.
- Thorough competitive benchmarking and analysis including SWOT.
- Market share analysis. o Key initiatives to achieve growth objectives including new product launches, market share and margin expansion initiatives.
- Resource planning including lab personnel, marketing budget etc.
- Financial projections in volume, revenue and gross margin.
The Execution:
- Managing product management reviews assessing performance against milestones, evaluating and reporting on KPI’s including margins, pricing, market share, sales of new products etc.
- Monthly reporting on the above with actions to mitigate headwinds and accelerate initiatives.
- Manage new product launches including product training, marketing collateral and support, promotional materials and recommended pricing.
- Actively review product portfolio including product sunsetting or withdrawal.
- Work with supply chain to actively select and manage suppliers including the delivery of product support to the sales teams.
- Customer visits.
- Trade show organization and follow up.
Background:
- 10+ years of experience in the personal care and cosmetics ingredients and materials distribution field is ideal.
- The ideal candidate will have successful experience in marketing or product management for a company that provides ingredients to the personal care and cosmetics market
- A strong grasp of the technical aspects of the ingredients and key properties is important.
- The ability to think and plan strategically and creatively.
- Experience developing and presenting strategies and business plans.
- Good analytical and presentation skills.
- Prior management experience (direct reports), leading and developing a team of scientific professionals is preferred.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work cross-functionally to achieve business goals.
- An advanced 4-year degree is required.
- The ideal candidate should reside in the greater NJ/NY Metro area.
