Director of Post Award Administration

About the Opportunity


**Hybrid role, working from the Boston campus 2 days a week. **


Reporting to the Assistant Dean for Administration and Finance, the Director of Post Award Administration will lead the College of Engineering’s (COE) Post Award team in all aspects of compliance, budget forecasting and service excellence for a $300+ million research portfolio. Under minimal supervision, the Director plays a key leadership role at the College of Engineering (COE), ensuring operational effectiveness in all post award management functions. Working closely with academic unit leaders and the Office of Research Administration and Finance (NU-RES), the Director monitors the entire post award process to ensure success from the notice of award to project closeout. Duties also include proactive outreach to faculty and staff, developing best practices, and facilitating a close collaboration between COE’s pre-award, HR and other administrative support teams. They will serve as the post award expert on regulations (including the Uniform Guidance and the FAR), agreement terms, and College policies, practices, and priorities for post award activities. The Director represents COE on issues of post award administration working with University offices and departments on resolutions.


The Director will provide quality control over the work output of the team by clarifying and enforcing standard operating procedures, staff accountability and quality standards. They will monitor and report on team productivity and status as required or requested by college leadership. Serves as a subject matter expert, advising ARC staff and the broader research community on a variety of areas impacted by or relating to research administration. The Director will partner with other COE staff and the Assistant Dean on establishing and executing College-wide initiatives and priorities. The Director will be responsible for the training and professional development of a large post-award team including the expansion of standard operating procedure materials


Qualifications:


  • Master’s Degree required
  • 7 to 10 years of research administration experience with a focus on post award activities
  • Strong experience working with faculty and researchers on federal and non-federal research administration at a non-profit organization.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of federal regulations and experience in managing compliance and interpreting and applying university and sponsor policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated leadership, as a leader and manager, in a research administration setting; proven record of staff supervision, personnel management, and staff development experience
  • Experience working with senior leadership and all relevant external and internal constituencies such as sponsor agencies, diverse faculty, research and administrators.
  • Experience in institutional process, policy and procedure development.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong systems skills including Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint required, experience with Smartsheet, Cognos, Workday preferred
