Position Title: Director of Philanthropy, Individual Giving 

Location: Remote USA (preference given to candidates with geographic proximity to  major fundraising markets (NYC, Bay Area) and/or a major international airport. 

Salary: $115,000-$140,000 (geographic location will be taken into consideration when determining salary)

Status: Full-time, salaried, exempt 

Reports to: Vice President, Philanthropy & Marketing

HOW YOU’LL CONTRIBUTE TO OUR MISSION:

• Manage and build a portfolio of major donors.
• Develop and implement comprehensive fundraising strategies for donors in the portfolio.
• Liaise with teams including marketing and conservation, business units, and board of directors with the ultimate goal of raising major gifts. 
• Organize and staff major donor events.
• Staff and lead the Rainforest Trust Philanthropy Committee of the Board.
• Advise leadership and Board on major giving trends.
• Pursue all of the above objectives in alignment with our core values.

TO SUCCEED IN THIS ROLE, WE’RE HOPING YOU’LL HAVE:

• Strong experience managing a portfolio of major donors between high 5 and 7-figure gifts with an organization with an operating budget of 10M+. You have a proven track record and capacity to effectively build relationships with high-net-worth philanthropists/donors by inspiring them with the organization's mission. You can consistently increase the number of individual donors and the level of giving through identification, cultivation, and solicitation. You can also masterfully steward our current donors to increase giving. You consistently prioritize meeting portfolio goals and understand and adhere to data privacy expectations and regulations.
• The ability to successfully develop and execute fundraising strategies and conduct relationship mapping. You consistently stay up to date on cutting-edge fundraising best practices and have a strong understanding of national and international major giving trends.
• The ability to coordinate and plan all aspects of small major donor events. You can skillfully inspire and compel high-net-worth individuals to give at events.
• The ability to successfully interface and collaborate with other departments and business units. This will require you to have strong communication and presentation skills. We also hope you have experience leading and staffing volunteer fundraising committees.
• Strong technical proficiency with CRMs and other donor research tools

WORKING CONDITIONS AND TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Rainforest Trust is a remote first organization and the incumbent will be expected to work primarily from home with an excellent internet connection, though part-time office space may be available in Warrenton, VA and/or Washington DC. 

Occasional national and/or international travel may be required for organizational meetings and other events.

ANTICIPATED SALARY

The salary range for this position is $115,000 - $140,000 commensurate with experience. This base compensation range represents the anticipated low and high range of wages for this position. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as candidate's geographic location, qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role. Since preference is given to candidates with geographic proximity to  major fundraising markets, geographic location will be taken into consideration when determining salary.
