ISPS-US Operations Director Job Description

The International Society for Psychological and Social Approaches to Psychosis, (ISPS) comprises a diverse range of individuals, networks and institutional members across more than twenty countries. ISPS began in 1956 to increase knowledge and understanding of the psychological and experiential aspects of psychosis and extreme states. ISPS-US was formed in 1998 bringing ISPS objectives and understandings to the U.S.

Over the course of this history, ISPS-US has witnessed the relentless pursuit of primarily biological explanations for "psychosis." This tide has been turning in recent years, with growing international recognition of a range of psychological, social, and cultural factors. Recognizing the humanitarian and therapeutic potential of these perspectives, ISPS-US embraces a wide spectrum of approaches from psychodynamic, systemic, cognitive, and arts therapies, to need-adapted and dialogical approaches, family and group therapies and residential therapeutic communities.

Central to ISPS-US's ethos is that the perspectives of individuals with lived experience and their families and friends, are key to forging more inclusive understandings of, and collaborative therapeutic approaches to, psychosis and extreme states. We believe that it will take people with diverse perspectives working together to accomplish our mission.
