Job Description Job Description Description: Facility: Regency Surgery Center is a Medicare Certified and AAAAHC Accredited outpatient surgery center in Encino CA, which specializes in Orthopedic, Hand, Sports, Plastics, and Pain Management surgeries and procedures. We specialize in ensuring the health and well-being of workers through a range of medical services, including injury care (workers’ compensation), physical examinations (employer services), and commercial (urgent care). Job Summary: The Director of Nursing (DON) has the confidence and skill to lead the organization's surgical ventures with support from the Medical Director and Executive Leadership. The DON is responsible for establishing and maintain policies and procedures in accordance with local, state, and federal regulation, maintaining compliance with accrediting bodies, and ongoing oversite of departmental objectives. The DON manages the clinical and administrative departments of the Surgery Center including planning, organizing, and directing the surgery center operations in coordination with the Surgery Center Manager, and with the supervision from the Medical Director. These joint responsibilities include and not limited to all aspects of environmental control, staff personnel, physicians and credentialing, materials, logistics and equipment, education of personnel, and all administrative duties. Staff reporting directly to this position are: Registered Nurses, Licensed Vocational Nurses, Surgical Technicians, Medical Assistants, SPD, and non-clinical staff, i.e. housekeeping, front desk. Responsibilities:

  • Develops, implements, and maintains an operating plan for nursing care that supports the goals and objectives of the Surgery Center.
  • Use sound management principles to organize, plan, coordinate and control the flow of patients, activities/services, personnel, and utilization of resources.
  • Develops, monitors, and communicates staffing schedules, and makes daily adjustments as necessary.
  • Responsible for preparation and oversight of the clinical staffing operating budget.
  • Provides adequate levels of staff to ensure safe and effective nursing care.
  • Supervise nursing care and all related activities of the Surgery Center in accordance the centers policies and procedures.
  • Perform continuous analysis and evaluation of nursing services to improve the quality of care, participates in research to improve patient care, and all aspects of nursing and professional services at the surgery center.
  • Resolves conflicts, mediates, and ensures compliance with policies by employees and physicians.
  • Ensures that all physician orders are carried out appropriately and timely; works collaboratively with ancillary staff.
  • Maintain standard operating policies and procedures manual.
  • Keep written job descriptions for all personnel up to date.
  • Establish and follow clinical practice guidelines based on best practices and evidence-based practices.
  • Monitor education development and required competencies for the department clinical staff.
  • Coordinate, implement and maintain quality assurance programs.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state accreditation guidelines.
  • Promptly and accurately reports all significant events.
  • Manages infection control program, helps establish, interpret, and implement standards of asepsis and infection control and monitors practice of all personnel concerned.
  • Administers orientation training and development of all clinical staff to ensure that staff is competent to perform job duties and responsibilities.
  • Ensures the availability of support services, supplies, and equipment to facilitate patient care.
  • Holds employees accountable for assigned responsibilities and individual goals and performance expectations through annual performance evaluations and timely documentation of performance.
  • Works through HR to conduct interviews, recommend for hire, implement a progressive disciplinary process, and recommend terminations as needed.
  • Meets/communicates regularly with upper management to review and /or revise established goals and objectives.
  • Assembles subject matter experts into teams to develop and update supply and equipment standards.
  • Conducts monthly staff meetings and maintains minutes of proceedings.
  • Oversees the ordering and appropriate par levels of medical supplies as needed.
  • Oversees the Sterile Processing Department and assures all medical instruments and equipment are in good working order.
  • Oversees Materials Management and Logistics, assuring all supplies, emergency supplies, specialty equipment and equipment are on hand and ready when needed.
  • Manages vendors and contracted services (such as Laboratory, Pharmacy, Radiology, Implants, Biomedical, Anesthesia, Facilities, and all other vendors)
  • Maintains, controls and reorders necessary medications for the facility.
  • Performs additional functions and duties as assigned. Requirements:
  • Education:
  • Graduate of accredited school of nursing
  • Preferred Masters or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (MSN/BSN)
  • Licensure & Certifications:
  • Current California State Board of Nursing Registered Nurse License.
  • Current BLS and ACLS certification.
  • Experience:
  • At least 2 years nursing supervisory experience in ASC, Operating Room or PACU.
  • At least 5 years critical care or surgical nursing experience.
  • Leadership Experience will be permissible if an internal applicant demonstrates clinical nursing leadership as a Charge/Senior RN, participation on professional committees inclusive of infection control, risk management, National Certification in Specialty, demonstrated completion of RN Leadership Development Program and/or demonstrated experiential exposure to Nursing Leadership.
  • Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to bend, squat, twist, lift, pull, push, as well as guiding/standing by in case assistance as needed.
  • Visual and audio acuity.
  • Clear and distinct speech.
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Abilities:
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated and proactive; a strong team player who thinks critically in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of Nurse Practice Act, AAAASF, AAAHC, and other local, state, federal regulations
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal communication skills.
