Director of Membership & Business Development

Job Summary: 

The Director of Membership and Business Development is responsible for developing and executing

strategies to increase membership and business opportunities for the organization. This role involves

leading the membership team, identifying and cultivating relationships with potential members and

business partners, and ensuring member satisfaction and retention. The Director will also work closely

with all departments to enhance the value proposition for members and drive revenue growth.

 

Minimum Qualifications and Education Required:

  • Associates or 4-year college degree desired.
  • 3+ years of sales or fundraising experience.
  • Must be able to work effectively independently and in a team environment.


Essential/Primary Job Duties:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive membership growth and business development strategies.
  • Set and achieve membership and revenue targets.
  • Lead efforts to attract, engage, and retain members.
  • Develop and oversee membership recruitment campaigns and initiatives.
  • Monitor member satisfaction and address any issues to ensure high retention rates.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities and partnerships.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including potential members, partners, and sponsors.
  • Develop proposals and presentations to secure business deals.
  • Manage and mentor the membership and business development team.
  • Collaborate with other departments, such as marketing, sales, and events, to enhance member offerings and drive revenue.
  • Foster a positive and productive team environment.
  • Develop and manage the membership and business development budget.
  • Track and report on financial performance, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Identify and implement cost-effective strategies to maximize resources.
  • Regularly report on membership and business development activities and results to senior leadership.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure that all activities comply with organizational policies and standards.
  • Grow volunteer support for organizational programming and initiatives, and inspire and guide volunteer leaders, including committee chairs and Ambassadors.
  • Work independently and with other Chamber staff as a team player.
  • Maintain strong working knowledge of all Chamber products, services and programs.
  • Be familiar with, and abide by, the Chamber’s policies and procedures.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building abilities.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to execute plans effectively.
  • Proficient in using CRM systems and other business development tools.
  • Results-oriented with a track record of achieving targets.
  • Confident and enthusiastic.
  • Experience in customer service, experience with membership organization a plus.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to create a positive impression of the Chamber while responding to members either by telephone, email or in person.

 

Environmental and Physical Requirements:

  • Flexible work schedule, with some early morning, evening and weekend hours.
  • May be required to stand for extended periods.
  • Vehicle and valid driver’s license.

 

Annual starting base salary: Commensurate with experience
