THE OPPORTUNITY:

Reporting to the Vice President DC Operations & Logistics, Network Transformation & Integration, the Director of Logistics is responsible for developing and implementing a logistics strategy for Transtar’s distribution network. This position will work closely with Distribution Center Managers, Branch Managers, Finance, and Site leaders across the company’s footprint, to develop a company-wide strategy, while addressing specific needs of each site. The Director of Logistics will be responsible for ensuring the timely, safe, and most cost-effective delivery of Transtar’s shipments throughout the network, and reverse logistics when dealing with core retrieval.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and implement a logistics strategy for Transtar to best serve our customers at the best cost structure.
  • Implement and report on KPIs to drive safety, service, cost and efficiency.
  • Develop, implement, track and report on cost savings initiatives and projects.
  • Manage a $40M transportation budget across multiple business units of the company and all modes of transportation.
  • Create, implement and manage a local delivery strategy to include Transtar employees, dedicated couriers and hotshot delivery services.
  • Oversee assignments, on-time delivery, costs and ensure DOT compliance of a fleet of 10+ Interstate drivers.
  • Manage and negotiate tariffs and pricing agreements for parcel, LTL, TL and ocean shipments.
  • Manage reverse logistics thought the organization; must work closely with suppliers, finance and site leaders to minimize costs associated with customer returns.
  • Stay current with logistics industry trends and best practices; constantly researching technology and logistics strategies.
  • Manage and oversee any and all vehicle insurance claims and incidents; manage the in-house delivery fleet training and safety culture by capturing and reporting safety metrics using vehicle Datametrics; identify and remove any unsafe practices and/or drivers.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated prior experience with
  • Setting and Managing Budgets
  • Developing and implementing e-commerce transportation strategies
  • Using PowerBI to track and report on KPIs
  • Effectively utilizing TMS, shipping/manifesting and local delivery software
  • Facilitating RFPs; installing and removing suppliers
  • Cost benefit analysis
  • International Trade Compliance
  • Minimum 15-years of experience in Supply Chain / Logistics, with 10-years of experience leading the Logistics function and / or team.
  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, or related field.
  • Comfortable with all modes of transportation; parcel, courier, LTL, TL, ocean and internal fleet.
  • Strong background and experience in international logistics including customs clearance.
  • Change agent, with a proven track record of implementing transformational change.
  • A strategic leader who can set and execute a departmental strategy.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s Business Administration (MBA) preferred.
  • Strong self-starter
  • Proficient personal computer and systems software skills (MS Office Suite & ERP systems) to accomplish work
  • A demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment, to take initiative, and to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization.
  • Solid analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Seasoned negotiator; comfortable with conflict driving change
