This is a full time 40 hour a week exempt position.

Salary- $125,000-$150,000 based on experience

The Position

The MSPCA-Angell is looking for an experienced Director for our Law Enforcement Division. The ideal candidate will have a diverse background in law enforcement and animal welfare. The Director of Law Enforcement is responsible for the oversight and operational management of the MSPCA-Angell Law Enforcement Department. The Department directly enforces the laws for the prevention of cruelty to animals and provides training and assistance to local/state agencies throughout Massachusetts to help enforce animal cruelty laws. In addition, the team provides a vital link within Massachusetts communities to emergency veterinary care, pet food, and counseling services to keep animals safe, healthy and with their families. The Director will foster a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion and work towards building relationships of trust and compassion with community members.

Some Of The Duties Include

  • Oversee the Law Enforcement Department operations and 11 person team including 7 humane special state police officers working throughout the state of Massachusetts.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with federal, state, and local police departments, animal control agents, animal welfare organizations, and state and municipal agencies to enhance the awareness of animal cruelty and protection responsibilities. Support those activities with expertise and resources in collaboration with the Animal Protection Division’s Staff Attorney.
  • Develop and implement training programs for all entities listed above to increase awareness and skill in addressing animal related issues.
  • Provide leadership to the 11 person Law Enforcement Department team including 7 humane special state police officers,
  • Oversee, conduct, and coordinate activities in conjunction with the Animal Protection Division’s Staff Attorney relating to the application for criminal complaints, investigations, criminal search warrants, and seizures of animals.
  • Oversee daily operational activities of the officers to ensure compliance with departmental policies, procedures, regulations and standards
  • Cultivate an intra-MSPCA collaborative (departmental) philosophy, which supports and strengthens cooperative relationships between the Law Enforcement Department and the entire MSPCA-Angell network. Act as departmental liaison to all other MSPCA-Angell departments, media, and other organizations, as appropriate.

Applicant Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED required; Bachelors preferred.
  • 5 years of progressively responsible experience in the law enforcement field.
  • 2 years of experience in a leadership or supervisor role.
  • 2 years of experience in animal welfare/advocacy.
  • Must have experience working in an investigatory capacity.
  • CPR Certified or ability to obtain CPR certification.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse, geographically separate group of employees: including an open door management approach and team building skills.
  • A willingness and ability to participate as a member of a collaborative, energetic, and committed member of a management team.
  • Bilingual Candidates (Spanish) strongly encouraged to apply
