Director of Junior High Ministries

Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church (PHPC) is a congregation of the Presbyterian Church (USA), called by God, redeemed by Jesus Christ, sustained by the Holy Spirit, seeking to grow in faith and Christian discipleship.


The ministries and mission of the church are guided by PHPC’s vision statement: Trusting that all belong to God. Living like we belong to one another. This statement was created and adopted by the Session (the elected leadership body) of the congregation after much discernment. PHPC believes our purpose is to be a community in which people belong, no matter where they are on their journey of faith, life, or love.


PURPOSE: To serve PHPC by developing and leading programs for youth that support and complement the overall ministry of the Church. This position is responsible for following all policies and core processes that embody the PHPC Core Values.


ACCOUNTABILITY: The Director of Junior High Ministries shall be directly responsible to the Director of High School & College Ministries and, through them, to the Staff Committee. The Director of High School & College Ministries will review the performance of the Director of Junior High Ministries in accordance with procedures established by the Staff Committee.


PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Director of Junior High Ministries will work with other members of the church staff, the Youth Ministry Team, and the Youth Committee to accomplish the following:

A.    Junior High Ministry:

1.      Direct the Junior High Ministry at the Church, as envisioned and planned with the Youth Ministry Team and the Youth Committee, placing a high priority on spiritual nurture, growing participation, developing lay leadership, and building relationships.

2.      Collaborate with the Director of Children’s Ministry, in welcoming incoming 6th graders into the Youth House, complete with programming, parent communication, and leadership for Route 56 fellowship events.

3.      Lead and prepare Sunday school, including teaching, coordinating with teachers, and welcoming students.

4.      Lead the Junior High Sunday school teacher training.

5.      Lead, plan, and coordinate all Junior High trips and fellowship opportunities.

6.      Build relationships with Junior High students, track attendance, and coordinate outreach to students who have been absent.

B.     Assist the Director of High School & College Ministries in planning, coordinating, and providing leadership for weekly programming (including fellowship and service activities), trips, retreats, and special events involving all youth as assigned.

C.     Coordinate communications to produce newsletter information, calendars, flyers, etc., as necessary to promote events.

D.    Serve the larger church through Grace Presbytery, Synod of the Sun, and the PC (USA).

E.     Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of High School & College Ministries.

Director of Junior High Ministries

§ Mission Ownership: Demonstrates understanding and full support of the mission, vision, values, and beliefs of the congregation; can demonstrate those values to others; consistently behaves in a manner congruent with the mission, vision, values and beliefs.

§ Volunteer Management: Provides direction, gains commitment, facilitates change, engages people in their areas of giftedness and passion.

§ Leadership Development: Encourages others to discover and engage their giftedness and skills in service; calls out the best in others; thinks strategically about the continual need for a next generation of leaders and works to build the leadership base.

§ Spiritual Formation/Discipleship: Demonstrates an understanding of spiritual formation/discipleship; creates teaching and small group environments that promote discipleship.

§ Time Management: Is able and willing to focus time on tasks that contribute to organizational goals; uses time effectively and efficiently; values time and respects the time of others; concentrates his/her efforts on the most important priorities; can appropriately balance priorities.

§ Bachelor’s Degree



Required Schedule: 40 hours per week, typically Sunday through Thursday.
