Director of Institutional Research and Effectiveness

Job Duties: 

The Director for Institutional Research and Effectiveness reports to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs and is responsible for extraction, analysis, and dissemination of data to inform institutional decision-making and monitor institutional effectiveness and viability. The Director contributes to the development and implementation of the Institutional Effectiveness Plan.


Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for the collection, analysis, dissemination of data for all purposes to inform institutional decision-making and monitor institutional effectiveness and viability.
  • Support implementation and maintenance of a data warehouse and data lake.
  • Oversee requests and responses for information, assessment of the strategic plan, compliance for grant reporting, and institutional improvements.
  • Ensure compliance for all reporting to state, regional and federal agencies.
  • Collaborate and support survey implementation, development, analysis, and reporting of results.
  • Oversee implementation of the Data Plan.
  • Oversee data accuracy that will include reviewing existing data collection methodology, validating existing reports, managing a data verification process for reports, and maintaining a data dictionary for all offices, including the creation of crosswalks between databases.
  • Support data governance including maintaining data accuracy, access and usage at the college with particular emphasis on data entry standards and data retrieval methodologies.
  • Develop and conduct training programs to support a culture of data literacy throughout the college.
  • Provide meaningful common data sets and dashboards that will improve the quality of recruitment, retention, and assessment activities at all levels of the institution.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of the Institutional Effectiveness Plan.
  • Supervise staff as assigned
  • Work collaboratively with members of the College community at all levels of the institution.
  • Provide support for various institutional initiatives as needed.
  • Represents the Provost at relevant meetings and events as needed.
  • Stay current on emerging trends, best practices, and innovations in higher education and strategic planning, and recommend adjustments to institutional strategies and processes as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree from an accredited university. 
  • At least five years of administrative experience in higher education, preferably in institutional research, planning, and assessment. 
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills 
  • Experience with relational databases, student information systems, and software used for data analysis such as SPSS or SAS, Excel; 
  • Experience in preparing reports for college and accreditation bodies.
  • Experience in strategic planning.
  • Experience in applied institutional research, analysis, data visualization, and communication of findings.
  • Experience in data collection, storage warehousing, access, analysis, and usage for evidence-based improvements.
  • Experience with IPEDS data reporting.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and best practices related to institutional planning, accreditation, and higher education governance.
