The IT Head of Transportation Technology is responsible for setting the IT (Information Technology) strategy, implementing that strategy and, all day-to-day IT operation of all IT systems related to supporting the Transportation (rail, trucking, drayage, etc.) division of Lineage’s Integrated Solutions business. This role will work in a matrixed organizational structure, and work with business leadership in these two verticals, while also reporting to the VP of IT – NA & Integrated Solutions. The role will be responsible for the reliable and smooth delivery of Lineage's application & infrastructure footprint throughout the lifecycle of these businesses, while building and maintaining a high-performing team. The role is responsible for understanding how to leverage Lineage standards and direction, where possible. The role is also responsible for managing vendor service relationships within these business units.


This leader will guide and shape the system and support landscape needed to drive our Transportation operations by aligning business leadership and IT leadership to develop IT strategies and execute them to deliver the necessary applications (both internally developed, externally developed and commercial off the shelf [COTS]) to support the strategies of Lineage’s global Transportation businesses.


Key Responsibilities

Infrastructure and Application Delivery Function

  • Leads the IT infrastructure, application delivery, and necessary field service delivery that support the Transportation business units (Trucking, Drayage, Freight Forwarding, Customs, & Rail).
  • Provide leadership, vision and direction to the IT organization as relates to the IT needs of all Transportation strategies and their IT system needs to ensure it will contribute to the company achieving its overall goals.
  • Manages the development and maintenance of disaster recovery plans
  • Ensures a positive end user experience for team members
  • Accountable for ensuring that the infrastructure conforms to Lineage standards for security, scalability and performance
  • Manages any service provider(s) performance of the services agreed to by the master services agreement for consistency, with both the spirit and the letter of the agreement
  • Manages and monitors escalated service provider issues, change management processes, and escalation procedures within the business units
  • Accountable for ensuring that early warning is provided to the appropriate leaders across the IT team regarding degraded or missed service level
  • Ensures timely resolution of escalated service delivery problems and minimizes the impact of any client service delivery issues
  • Champions Continuous Improvement in Service and Application Delivery
  • Responsible for setting metrics to demonstrate continuous improvement and alignment with the
  • industry
  • Defines and manages service level reporting for the delivery functions
  • Promotes projects' adherence to the defined business case process and provides accurate and effective estimating and planning
  • Drives the implementation of strategic objectives, outlined in the roadmap for the rail leasing business.
  • Align with key stakeholders to create a IT roadmap for the business, with incremental benefits and costs projected out over three+ years.
  • Accountable for business projects/portfolios, ensuring effective reporting within IT
  • Ensures project reviews with IT teams, as appropriate
  • Reports regularly on service performance and project delivery status, informing all stakeholders of status and issues.


Establishing & Implementing Standards

  • Provides effective leadership in support of the IT organization including resourcing, budget, structure and policies and procedures
  • Manages, and continually improves service level reporting for IT Delivery
  • Monitors and manages IT budgets within the redistribution and rail transport business units
  • Implements, adheres and monitors security compliance to Lineage Global Standards.

Experience / Education / Skills

  • 15+ Years in IT, Systems, Supply Chain, Applications Projects
  • 5+ Year of experience supporting & managing IT delivery at a dynamic transportation company with proven ability to understand strategic transportation business objectives and drive IT results toward those objectives.
  • Bachelor’s Degree Required, Advanced Degree Preferred.
  • A solid understanding of overall IT architecture and application integration. Proven ability to define the application stack to support a transportation company.
  • Strong communication skills with a proven ability to understand key concepts and communicate effectively with technical staff, business stakeholders and senior management (i.e. articulate complex technical ideas in easy-to-understand business terms).
  • Demonstrated success leading large-scale initiatives/transformations
  • Proven executive experience in strategic planning and budgeting within one or more business groups with a Dev Ops and IT Service Management focus
  • Experience with and knowledge of IT outsourcing activities in a managed services environment. Ability to manage IT Vendors and control cost while extracting value.
  • Strong understanding of SDLC, Agile
  • Strong process management, negotiating, influencing and problem resolution skills
  • Proven ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
  • Demonstrated ability to assess customer/client needs, creatively approach solutions, decide, and influence appropriate courses of action
  • Ability to understand and communicate the lifecycle of technologies and applications and to translate into business strategies for the client organizations
  • Ability to accomplish results through others, particularly by establishing relationships, effective controls and leading in a managed service environment.


Salary Range: $146,250 - $195,000
