Schedule: Full Time, 35 hours/week, approximately 3 days working onsite
Reporting to the Chief Philanthropy Officer (CPO),the Director of Individual Giving has a critical role in helping advance the museum’s robust and innovative department yielding more than $30 million annually in contributed and earned revenue. A strategist, fundraiser, and team leader, they are responsible for guiding a team that raises more than $6M annually through the Directors’ Circle, Curator’s Circle, Collectors’ Forum, Contemporaries, SECA, and Accessions membership groups, and the Travel program. The Director helps lead a Philanthropy program that attracts, engages, inspires, and yields meaningful long-term relationships with museum supporters and reaches its fiscal goals.

Responsibilities & Duties
- Strategy & Leadership
- Sets and achieves revenue goals for Individual Giving programs in partnership with program leaders.
- Develops and leads short and long-term strategies to cultivate and solicit individuals.
- Leads strategies that deepen and diversify the donor community, with a focus on emerging donors.
- Monitors and reports on progress toward revenue goals and effectively and responsibly oversees expense budgets.
- Leverages trustees and volunteer leaders to advise on strategies and to help identify, cultivate and solicit annual gifts and engage donors.
- Effectively manages and motivates the Individual Giving team (7 staff members).
- Provides strategic oversight of volunteer committees.
- Reviews fundraising strategies and progress against revenue goals with the Chief Philanthropy Officer.
- Leads Individual Giving reporting at meetings of the Philanthropy Committee of the Board of Trustees and other meetings.
- Collaborates with Special Events team to design events program that engages the donor portfolio.
- Serves as a positive and productive leader to the entire Philanthropy department and excellently represents the program internally and externally.
- Cultivation, Fundraising, & Stewardship
- Owns portfolio of high-level museum donors with responsibility for their steady and meaningful engagement and renewed and increased giving.
- Owns management of prospective trustee pipeline. Tracks engagement, leads regular meetings, and ensures advancement of cultivation strategies.
- Leads retired trustee stewardship initiatives.
- Strategizes with CPO on trustee engagement and sometimes supports trustee events and programs that deepen trustee relationships with board peers and with the museum.
- Partners with Director of Major Gifts to help identify and advance potential major gifts donors and to ensure coordinated solicitations.
- Partners with Director of Membership to oversee management of and aligned cultivation activities for member upgrades.
- Oversees personalized and effective donor stewardship practices; supervises acknowledgement, renewal, and solicitation processes and timelines.
- Minimum of eight (8) years of experience working in a Philanthropy program, preferably in the arts or museums sectors.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience working directly with and fundraising from individual donors and Board of Trustees.
- History of demonstrated successes leading membership programs resulting in increased revenue.
- Strong staff management and people leadership and relationship building skills, influencing, negotiation, performance management and conflict resolution skills, including the ability to work effectively across all levels of management and staff.
- Expertiseidentifying, recruiting, hiring, onboarding and managing a thriving staff team.
- Strong financial acumen, having owned or supported a $2M+ operating budget (revenue and expense).
