Director of Guest Experience

The minimum starting salary for this position is $60k/yr.

Our Guest Experience Team has a key role in influencing the guest experience and FWBG is seeking an experienced individual to help lead our team as the Director of Guest Experience. The right candidate will share our values, be dedicated to the support of our mission, and want to help us achieve our vision of being renowned globally and treasured locally for exceptional and influential research, horticulture, and education.

The Director of Guest Experience will help ensure our guests enjoy positive experiences with our staff by providing exceptional administrative, managerial, and guest service support. The Director will collaborate with the Senior Director on effective budget management, revenue generation and tracking, guest and event systems maintenance, recruitment, and department communications. This role is also responsible for obtaining and distributing information; coordinating department policy compliance, programs, and projects; and ensuring all activities are cost-effective and conducted efficiently to set the tone of our visitor’s experience as positive, explorative, and interactive.

Key Qualifications to be considered for the Director of Guest Experience Position

  • High level oral and written communication skills to liaison between FWBG and external suppliers and vendors, to provide excellent customer service through heavy telephone and in-person interactions, and successfully establish and maintain effective working relationships with management and staff.
  • Experience responding effectively to requests for information from employees and the general public and performing follow-up research in a timely manner to retrieve answers and supporting information.
  • Fiscal administrative skills including supply requisitions, purchase orders, budget development and management, data and information compiling and reporting, and financial data analysis to improve profitability.
  • Experience providing executive administrative support including travel arrangements, expense reports, clerical duties, data entry, processing documentation, monitoring contracts, supporting payroll activities, and ensuring accurate payment schedules.
  • Skilled at managing and developing employees, identifying and meeting training needs, coordinating schedules, resolving conflicts, enforcing policy compliance, and recruiting.

Required Education And Experience

  • Associate degree from an accredited college with major course work in Business Management, Public Administration, Business Administration or related field, or four years of clerical, administrative, and management experience.
  • Proficiency with computers and learning, using, and maintaining software systems and programs with specific experience with customer service/retail/event management/payroll software Altru, XtruLink, Swipetrack, and Paycom or similar systems.
  • Education in the principles and practices of business administration, human resources, and budget preparation with experience in budgeting and forecasts.
  • Knowledge of the primary operational characteristics, services, and activities of a nonprofit, garden, or similar operation to FWBG, including administrative, financial, guest experience, and HR functions, and familiarity with pertinent Federal, State, Non-Profit, and local laws, codes, and regulations.
  • Knowledge of the principles and procedures of record management and experience with capital purchasing policies and procedures, and contract management and compliance.
  • Problem-solving, planning, and organizational skills with ability to manage time and prioritize work.
  • Analytical thinking skills with attention to detail with the ability to research and gather data on complex issues and read, interpret, and analyze complex reports.
