Position Summary Information

Minimum Qualifications

  • Earned graduate degree
  • At least one year’s experience providing professional development programming support for college/university students, including program development, management, and evaluation
  • Highly-developed interpersonal skills (both verbal and written), with experience in public speaking
  • Employee supervisory experience
  • Proficiency working with MS Office platforms and Google Suite.

License/Certification Required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience overseeing graduate student professional development and wellness events and activities
  • Working knowledge of DegreeWorks and Banner

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

The Graduate Student Life team within the Cratis D. Williams School of Graduate Studies provides professional, wellness, and career development events and resources for graduate students enrolled in both main campus and distance/online programs. The Director will be responsible for developing and maintaining an ongoing program of professional and personal development workshop/seminars/other activities for graduate students and faculty program directors. The Director of Graduate Student Life reports directly to the Dean of the Cratis D. Williams School of Graduate Studies.

The Director of Graduate Student Life will be expected to:

  • Plan and supervise the work of Graduate Student Life
  • Engage in regular planning with the administrative team in the Graduate School, which includes the Associate Vice Provost and Dean and Associate Dean, and work collaboratively with other Graduate School staff members.
  • Assume primary responsibility for planning and implementing professional development, academic support, social, and wellness workshops and events to support enrolled graduate students in both main campus and distance/online graduate programs.
  • Evaluate Graduate Student Life support services by collecting and analyzing data to improve the effectiveness of these services.
  • Prepare annual reports for the Associate Vice Provost and Dean of Graduate Studies that detail Graduate Student Life activities, including the number of students served.
  • Oversee development and maintenance of the Students and Events page on the Graduate School website, as well as of regular email communications to all enrolled graduate students.
  • Assume primary responsibility for planning and implementing Graduate School awards events, competitions such as the annual Three-Minute Thesis event, and new student orientations, as well as the graduate student portion of University commencement ceremonies.
  • Coordinate with various campus partners, deans, associate deans, department chairs, program directors and faculty to support overall success of enrolled graduate students
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the University’s diversity, equity, and inclusion principles by participating in DEI workshops and by creating opportunities that support the success of all graduate students.
  • Contribute positively to the work of the Graduate School by being self-directed, consistently productive, taking initiative in the ongoing development of support programs, and being self-directed and detail-oriented.
