Performs the more complex and specialized accounting of financial activity and directs the overall accounting work of the organization. Responsible for providing overall direction for accounting, tax reporting, preparing annual budgets, incorporating budget into financial operations, and bank management. Ensures that financial transactions, policies, and procedures meet the organization’s ethical commitments, short and long-term objectives, appropriate transparency, and regulatory requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manage the day-to-day operations of (a) accounts payable, (b) retail financial activity, (c) general ledger, (d) bank accounts, as well as (e) special projects and Regional Impact Center activity
Maintain accurate accounting records related to (a) donation recording, (b) restricted funds, (c) investments, and (d) tax reporting
Train and coordinate the activities of supervised employees and all staff on finance policy and procedure as well as system utilization
Review financial activity to verify accuracy and reconcile any errors
Support bi-weekly payroll in coordination with Human Resources
Ensure corporate compliance with finance, taxes, and regulatory requirements.
Prepare the monthly (a) balance sheets and (b) profit and loss financial statements (c) reports used by management
Prepare monthly and annual tax forms and assist other departments with preparation of legal/governmental registration forms in a timely manner
Lead the annual audit process
Create annual budgeting documents and compile departmental information for the corporate budget proposal and reporting to the Board of Directors
Furnish financial information and reports to ECHO’s Officers, Directors, and Board Treasurer as requested
Support the annual process with insurance brokers and senior management to research and procure all required insurance coverage for the organization (not including insurance related to employee benefits)
Track and report financial information for multiple projects and grants as well as assist with project management, budget development, and grant administration
Cooperate with the Executive Team by performing other duties when asked to do so
QUALIFICATIONS:

Considerable knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), accounting terminology, procedures, and requirements
Ability to plan and supervise the work of others
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional documents, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
Ability to create reports based on specific criteria provided
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, directors, CEO, Board of Directors, and donors
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables and deadlines
Ability to make decisions in accordance with laws, ordinances, regulations, and established policies
While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to work efficiently with QuickBooks Online and other finance software, perform a wide-range of computer operations and effectively utilize the MS-Office suite of software (Excel, Word, Power Point, Teams, etc.)
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Credentialed as a CPA or have a college degree in accounting with sufficient experience to fulfill non-profit accounting requirements
Minimum of 7 years’ experience
Experience with international functioning Non-Profit strongly preferred

Those directly supervised: Accounting Supervisor, Accounting Clerk
Interacts and coordinates efforts with: Human Resources, Advancement, and Retail

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands, talk and hear. The employee is required to sit, stoop, kneel, and crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:
This is a full-time position. Normal days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
TRAVEL:
Travel is primarily local during the business day.
