About The Role The Director of Field Application Sciences is responsible for the global Field Applications Sciences (FAS) team including hiring and building the standard operating procedures (SOP) & key performance indicators (KPI) to effectively manage their presales and post-sales activities in service of obtaining our corporate revenue goals and ensuring a superior customer experience.
What You Will Do
Works collaboratively with the Sales and Client Services teams and related global teams on new sales opportunities, technology, product improvements, product launches and competition.
Assist with instrument implementation as an extension of the Field Service Engineering (FSE) organization when necessary.
Work with GTM team members to identify and develop strategic partnerships and close/grow major customer accounts
Continually optimize team members utilization and contribution rates as well as establish an optimal FAS to sales rep ratio for the purpose of forecasting and anticipating resource needs.
Actively participate with the GTM team in the development of the long term team plans, competitive activity, and market trends that will affect the business. Strategic planning will focus on market penetration and growth initiatives.
Achieves financial objectives by preparing a budget; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions.
Develop and implement systems and policies driving the interviewing and hiring of all departmental personnel consistent with departmental goals. Ensure that performance is routinely evaluated, and performance appraisals are completed within the department.
Direct all activity relating to supporting trade shows, conventions, and regional events from an applications perspective.
Regularly travels with the sales and FAS team to ensure the best presentation of the Opentrons product portfolio and ensure customer satisfaction.
What We Are Looking For
Education
BS degree in life sciences or equivalent experience is desired.
Master's in Biology, Bioinformatics, Biomedical Engineer, or Business Administration is a bonus.
Experience
Life Science Industry Experience
5-10 years in customer facing or client services roles.
Significant and successful product launch experience
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
Knowledge of core biology workflows such as NGS, NAP, PCR, ELISA, etc.
Ability to lead staff with confidence, motivation, decisiveness, flexibility, sound business judgment.
Ability to recognize and manage potential problem areas and resolve them with sound judgment and integrity.
Ability to manage and develop service territories and regions while also managing costs and risks.
Ability to travel locally, regional as well as internationally and at times on short notice
Strong organizational and time management skills. Ability to work well under pressure and multi-task.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
National and international travel will be required as much as 60% of the time.
High stress, fast-paced environment with a high volume of work to be completed daily
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
Moderate physical effort will be required
Compensation Range: The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $200,000 and $240,000 per year including potential bonus and/or commission; however base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and years of experience. We typically target mid-range for well-qualified candidates. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including equity and a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. Following employment, growth beyond the hiring range is possible based on performance.
