Description

The Director of Facilities is primarily responsible for ensuring the efficient operation, maintenance, and improvement of the universities facilities. This includes overseeing building maintenance, security, safety protocols, and space management to support the universities objectives. This role will report directly to the Executive Vice President/CFO.

Essential Functions

  • Develop and implement facilities management policies, procedures, and standards to ensure efficient and cost-effective operation of all facilities.
  • Manage the maintenance, repair, and renovation of buildings, grounds, and equipment to maintain optimal condition and functionality.
  • Monitor and manage facility usage, space allocation, and workplace environment to support operational needs and employee productivity.
  • Hiring, training, and supervising facilities staff, including groundskeepers, housekeeping staff, and administrative personnel.
  • Conducting performance evaluations and providing feedback.
  • Developing staff schedules and ensuring adequate coverage for all shifts.
  • Develop and manage the facilities budget, including forecasting expenditures, identifying cost-saving opportunities, and ensuring budget compliance.
  • Negotiate contracts with vendors, suppliers, and service providers for facility services, maintenance, and renovations.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations and standards related to facilities operations.
  • Implement and maintain emergency response procedures and protocols to safeguard employees, visitors, and property.
  • Develop long-term strategies and plans for facilities infrastructure and resources to support the university's growth and objectives.
  • Evaluate and recommend improvements to facilities systems, processes, and technology to enhance efficiency and sustainability.
  • Oversee facility construction, renovation, and expansion projects from planning through completion, ensuring quality, timeliness, and adherence to budgetary constraints.
  • Collaborate with senior management, department heads, and external stakeholders to align facilities management with university goals and priorities.
  • The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that logically relate to the position.

Knowledge Skills And Abilities

  • Strong leadership abilities to guide and motivate a team.
  • Understanding of building systems, construction, and maintenance practices.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal building codes, ordinances, and regulations.
  • Ability to handle multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to analyze complex issues, develop solutions, and make strategic decisions.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, as well as knowledge and understanding of the organizational structure, workflow, and operating procedures.
  • CPR and AED Certified.
  • Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to fifty (50) pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Facilities Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or related field.
  • Advanced degree or professional certifications (e.g., CFM - Certified Facility Manager) may be preferred.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Flexibility to work outside of normal business hours.
