League One Volleyball (LOVB) is reimagining women's sports. Launched in 2019, our company is a mission-led sports performance, training and media enterprise that will change the game of volleyball in the USA and empower new generations of female athletes.

It is a groundbreaking time for volleyball in the US with our historic triple Olympic Gold medals in Women's Indoor, Beach and Sitting Volleyball. Volleyball is already the #1 most played girls' youth sport. There are 38M current and former players today. Of major sports, it's the only one that is women-first (~90% of players are female). But the volleyball market has been almost entirely missed by traditional sports investors, brands and media.

LOVB will capture this opportunity by creating a strong club business and from that built-in audience and fandom create the best Pro League in the world and use a digital media platform that will connect all aspects of LOVB. This community-up approach will drive participation and fandom, while enabling greater empowerment for girls and young women living this amazing sport.

The Role:

We are seeking an innovative and strategic Director of Event and Team Technology to lead our technology initiatives across all facets of our professional sports operations. This role is pivotal in ensuring that our technology infrastructure supports the performance of our teams, the functionality of our arenas, and enhances broadcast and fan experience. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in sports technology management and a proven track record of leading large-scale technology projects within a professional sports environment. This position reports to VP, Pro Operations & Events

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership and Vision
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive technology strategy that aligns with the organization’s goals and enhances team performance, arena operations, broadcast production and game-day experiences
  • Lead, inspire and manage a multidisciplinary team of IT professionals (vendors and contractors), fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence
  • Serve as a key member of the Events & Ops leadership team, providing strategic insights and recommendations on technology (products and services) investments and initiatives
  • Collaborate with and support colleagues across Events & Operations and Sport functions
  • Arena Technology Operations:
  • Create technology overlay plans and associated load in/ out plans for each of our arenas in collaboration with the Venues team
  • Manage the technology infrastructure of our arenas, including network systems, audio-visual equipment, game analytics and statistics, broadcast needs and digital signage
  • Work closely with scoring, statistical analysis and Challenge/Replay system technology partners
  • Ensure the reliability and security of arena technology, supporting everything from broadcast, ticketing, and concessions to fan engagement and in-game entertainment
  • Work closely with Venues team and facility managers to integrate technology seamlessly into arena operations
  • Game Technology and Fan Experience:
  • Oversee the implementation of game-day technology solutions, such as live streaming, instant replay systems, and interactive fan experiences
  • Research and provide solutions that enhance the in-game experience for fans through innovative uses of technology, including mobile apps, virtual reality, and augmented reality
  • Ensure that all game technology meets league standards and compliance requirements
  • Team Technology Management:
  • Collaborate with league staff to identify technology needs and ensure the effective use of tech resources to improve performance and efficiency
  • Oversee the deployment and maintenance of technology solutions that support team operations
  • Bring pro training venues online with appropriate sports technology for team needs
  • Project Management and Execution:
  • Develop a clear and detailed technology roadmap and execution plan for the league
  • Set and execute against measurable KPIs
  • Establish a technology playbook/ manual for the league
  • Lead major technology projects from inception to completion, ensuring timely delivery within budget
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external vendors to manage project scope, timelines, and resources
  • Continuously evaluate project outcomes, implementing improvements and best practices
  • Innovation and Continuous Improvement:
  • Stay current with the latest trends and advancements in sports technology, identifying opportunities for innovation and improvement
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the technology team
  • Conduct regular technology assessments and audits to ensure systems are up-to-date and optimized for performance


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in IT management, with at least 3 years in a leadership role within professional sports
  • Extensive experience managing technology for teams, arenas, and game-day operations
  • Strong understanding of network infrastructure, cybersecurity, data analytics, and cloud-based solutions
  • Demonstrated success in leading large-scale technology projects and managing budgets
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment


Preferred Experience:

  • Experience in a major sports league or team, such as the NBA, WNBA, NFL, NHL, PWHL, MLS, or NWSL with a focus on team, arena, and game technology
  • Proven ability to drive technology innovation that enhances team performance and fan engagement
  • Experience in managing technology partnerships and vendor relationships

Location

This remote position will be based in one of the 6 inaugural Pro League Cities: Austin, TX; Houston, TX; Atlanta, GA; Omaha, NE; Madison, WI; Salt Lake City, UT. The company is not offering a relocation.

  • The annual base salary for this role is $100,000-$120,000 with bonus, plus our comprehensive benefits package. Actual compensation to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based on geographic location, work experience, education and/or skill level, among other things.
