About the Global EHS Team:

The Cardinal Health Global EHS team is responsible for designing, developing and implementing EHS procedures, programs, processes, and systems to ensure compliance with regulatory and company requirements. Additional responsibilities include mitigating EHS risks to the company, its employees, the environment and the communities in which it does business.

Role Summary:

The Director of Environment, Health and Safety will report directly to the East Zone Sr. Director, EHS and has several direct reports. This leader is responsible for the Southeast Region (FL, GA and SC) and supports all employees and operations (Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Nuclear Pharmacy and Commercial Operations) in the region. This position provides deep subject matter expertise to all operations within the region. This leader works closely with site operations teams in the implementation of global EHS programs and strategies to manage, mitigate and, whenever possible, eliminate environmental, health and safety risks to Cardinal Health employees, facilities, products, and communities in which the company operates. 

Responsibilities:

Education and Mentorship- 15%
  • Manages, develops and mentors site-level EHS staff in the region.
  • Educates and coaches management teams within the region on their EHS roles and responsibilities.
  • Assists in developing bench strength across the enterprise & helps foster a diverse workforce.
EHS Leadership and Consulting- 35%
  • Drives implementation of the global EHS strategy in the region to mitigate risk to people, property, community and brand. 
  • Partners with operations leaders, functional leaders, and EHS staff across all businesses in region to drive continual EHS improvement.  
  • Ensure critical EHS information is communicated across the region. 
  • Participates in business integrations within the region. 
  • Provides leadership, support, and subject matter expertise for events taking place in the region (e.g., agency visits, natural disasters, significant incidents, etc.).

Hazard Recognition, Evaluation and Control / Regulatory Compliance- 30%
  • Assists in the management of operation-specific EHS risk assessments and the development of risk mitigation plans. 
  • Partners with leaders to ensure the Cardinal Health EHS management system, standards, policies and procedures are implemented in the region. 
  • Analyzes key EHS measures to assist operations build continual improvement plans. 
  • Assists leaders in identifying budgetary needs to address risk reduction and compliance assurance. 
  • Ensures key EHS performance metrics are accurately reported and communicated in the region. 
  • Assists with the response to regulatory agency inquiries and reporting obligations. 
  • Participates in EHS assessments and audits across the enterprise. 
  • Provides EHS subject matter expertise to leaders with operations in the region. 
  • Provides technical assistance and guidance in all EHS matters, including ergonomics, industrial hygiene, safety, environmental and occupational health processes.
Workers’ Compensation, Security Crisis Management, and Business Resiliency- 20%
  • Leads the overall investigation, notification and case management for workers’ compensation claims in the region. 
  • Serves as the primary EHS point of contact for workers’ compensation third party administrator(s). 
  • Provides support in the development of robust business resiliency plans.
  • Partners with security resources to mitigate risk.
  • Demonstrates EHS leadership during business continuity situations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent experience in a related field.  Advanced degree and professional certification (CSP, CIH, CHMM, etc.) strongly preferred
  • Experience managing EHS for multiple operations & leading EHS teams
  • EHS experience in healthcare industry, preferred
  • Proven history as a valued, pragmatic and trusted EHS business partner
  • Strong familiarity, understanding and experience in EHS Management Systems and their successful implementation
  • Strong substantive knowledge of regulations and guidance promulgated by Federal and State OSHA and EPA (or country equivalent), as well as workers’ compensation requirements
  • Proven experience implementing effective company-wide EHS programs
  • Strong technical ability to work, collaborate and negotiate with government officials, consultants, and other third-party stakeholders
  • Collaborative leadership skills to achieve desired results in a highly matrixed work environment
  • Fosters trust, confidence and followership across the region
  • Self-directed, and able to work productively on multiple initiatives simultaneously
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills and not be afraid of rolling up the sleeves to deliver practical solutions
  • Ability to clearly and succinctly communicate and sell value-added solutions to operations leadership
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Must be creative in developing cost-effective, sensible solutions that deliver results
  • Ability to travel up to 50%

Anticipated salary range: $112,500 - $173,000
