Job Summary
The Director of Engineering will lead our engineering department, focusing on developing a top-tier asset management program and ensuring outstanding project delivery across all facets of the organization. This role is pivotal in making strategic decisions that significantly impact our capital and maintenance activities for public drinking water. The ideal candidate will foster an environment of excellence, collaboration, and safety, while providing visionary leadership to achieve departmental and organizational goals.
Essential Functions
Spearhead the development of a centralized asset management program, employing best practices for capital efficiency and continuous improvement.
Offer strong, consistent leadership, embodying the company’s STARS values (service, teamwork, accountability, respect, and safety) and promoting a culture of teamwork and safety.
Ensure exceptional project management across the organization, developing a comprehensive project management manual.
Manage departmental performance, setting work goals, and conducting performance evaluations.
Champion asset management best practices, including the implementation of leading asset management software and the development of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
Oversee water supply planning, dam safety programs, and efforts to reduce non-revenue water.
Coordinate with technical consultants, contribute to rate cases, bond financing, and ensure annual capital expenditure goals are met.
Play a significant role in strategic planning, budget management, and inter-departmental coordination to support company-wide objectives.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in civil or environmental engineering
Must be a registered Professional Engineer.
At least 10 years of experience in the water/wastewater industry, with a track record of professional growth in project and personnel management, department management, and asset management.
Must have strong foundation in project management, regulatory compliance, environmental policies, and financial management.
Experience/Skills/Abilities
Demonstrated leadership skills, including vision-setting, motivating teams, and fostering professional growth.
Strong communication skills for effective team guidance, board presentations, and inter-agency reporting.
Excellent problem-solving, conflict resolution, and decision-making abilities.
Proven capability to manage multiple priorities and tasks, enhancing internal and external customer service.
