As Cardata's Director of Engineering, you will be responsible for making executive technology decisions on behalf of the company, including managing a technology budget and making investments to align the company with its vision for its technological needs. You will leverage your strong work history in the technological sector to shape, implement and manage processes which drive quality development that delivers products our users love at a high velocity. To do this, you will need to be a strategic thinker, an effective communicator, and an expert in technological development.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Create a vision for how technology will be used in the company
  • Ensure that technological resources meet the company's short and long-term needs
  • Outline the goals for research and development and create timelines for the development and deployment of all technological services
  • Work with your teams to set clear and measurable objectives, and drive them to completion
  • Make executive decisions on behalf of the company's technological requirements
  • Maintain a consumer-focused outlook and aid in the delivery of IT projects to market
  • Manage technology budgets and time frames
  • Research new technologies to stay up to date on technology trends and developments
  • Proactively identify areas of improvement where engineering teams can make a difference and work with other teams to make those improvements happen
  • Ensure all technology practices adhere to regulatory standards (SOC2)
  • Foster a collaborative and accountable team culture and strong customer empathy
  • Manage a team of engineers and cultivate them through mentorship, coaching and training
  • Lead recruitment, retention, succession planning and career development of your team


What You’ll Bring

  • 10+ years of software development experience with 3+ years of people management experience
  • A Bachelor's or Master’s degree in computer science, software engineering or equivalent work experience
  • An experienced and thoughtful leader who has built and fostered collaborative, high performing and innovative engineering teams
  • Demonstrated experience working in a small, fast-paced, scaling company
  • Passionate about building great software for our customers
  • Exceptional communication skills with ability to simplify technical concepts and explain them to non-technical partners
  • Strong business acumen, with the ability to link engineering initiatives to the rest of the organization and bottom-line
  • Thorough understanding of full stack systems including, preferably with specific experience of MySQL, PHP, Redis, React
  • Thorough understanding of database technology such as MySQL/MariaDB
  • Bonus points if you’ve worked for a PE-backed company or have experience working with mobile tracking or reimbursement technologies!
