Director of Electronics Engineering


Our client’s electronics division is at the forefront of providing safety-critical systems crucial for national defense and space exploration. Experiencing unprecedented growth, they seek a seasoned professional to assume the role of Director of Electronics Engineering. This individual will lead the engineering team by nurturing talent, advancing technologies, and refining processes to enable profitable scaling within this burgeoning industry.

Responsibilities:


The Director of Electronics Engineering will leverage our core values to build the infrastructure, talent, and processes necessary to support the expanding electronics business.


Talent Development:


  • Assemble a diverse and proficient organization that meets Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost objectives.
  • Develop leaders who focus on nurturing strong teams and enhancing processes.
  • Foster staff well-being by utilizing employee survey results to create a superior work environment and a culture of belonging.
  • Strengthen the team by recruiting and retaining top talent and providing continuous, real-time coaching and feedback.
  • Support individual career development by creating opportunities for team learning and growth.


Executional Excellence:


  • Ensure the application of consistent, rigorous engineering processes, tools, methods, standards, and techniques.
  • Foster a robust team environment with a determined approach to risk and requirements management and design for manufacturability, testing, and cost-efficiency.
  • Monitor key performance indicators for development process quality and delivery, using daily management to drive team performance.
  • Promote a culture of robust problem-solving through effective root cause analysis and implementation of countermeasures.
  • Collaborate with Operations and Program Management to ensure processes and talent are in place to support program execution and facilitate a smooth transition from engineering to production.


Strategy Deployment:


  • Develop and execute a technology and capability roadmap that aligns with the business strategy.
  • Work closely with Operations, Program Management, and Business Development leadership to ensure alignment on customer and business objectives, ensuring team capacity and capabilities support the expanding business.
  • Assist in business development and customer interface activities as necessary.


Requirements:


  • BS/MS in electronics, electrical, or computer engineering, or physics.
  • A minimum of 15 years of experience in project management, design, or related electronics engineering roles.
  • Proven track record of leading complex electronic products through all stages of development and into production.
  • Experience in a high mix, low volume electronics development and manufacturing environment.
  • Skilled in managing, training, mentoring, and coaching leaders.
  • Strong problem-solving and root cause analytical skills to drive change.
  • Experience in improving engineering or manufacturing processes to enhance profit margins or lead time metrics.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a U.S Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance and be capable of working on U.S. DoD and ITAR-restricted products.
  • Experience in the Aerospace and Defense industry.


The Director of Electronics Engineering will oversee Engineering Managers and Principal Engineers and is expected to be a potential successor to the Vice President of Electronics or Vice President of another function.
