Position Summary:

The Advancement Director provides direction and oversight in all functions which contribute to and support the raising of resources (human, financial) which support and fund the advancement of Heading Home and its mission to make experiences of homelessness rare, short-lived and nonrecurring. Primary focus will be on major gifts and annual pledge support.

Strategic Overview:

The Advancement Department is designed to build relationships towards a philanthropic outcome by growing systems which raise money and will place most of its time and resources requests for philanthropic investment by individuals, families, corporations and foundations whose mission of philanthropy overlaps with the work and mission of Heading Home. Work in effective planning, case development, and donor engagement will support this effort.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Planning: Manage and regularly update macro and micro strategic plans with measurable objectives which support giving to Heading Home’s work. Advancement planning and work will engage staff, board members, civic leaders and philanthropists in raising money, awareness and volunteers.
  • Major and Planned Giving: Build, manage and maintain a database, an engagement-deepening system, communications and donor recognition plans which inspire major and planned-gift prospects to deepen engagement in and philanthropy to Heading Home’s work and which will lead to the successful solicitation of major and planned gifts while inspiring new donors and volunteers to engage and grow their involvement and giving.
  • New Donor Engagement and Annual Giving: Design an Annual Giving Campaign that will be based on hosted gatherings in which hospitality and case communication will inspire attendees to make annual pledges to support Heading Home’s mission.
  • Awareness and Case Development: Collaborate to create case development and printed, video and media collateral materials, including basic brochures, videos and philanthropic investment reports for donors and prospects forms that inform donors and prospects about Heading Home’s mission and effectiveness.
  • Financial Development Events: The Advancement Director will work to coordinate events which raise money and/or awareness.
  • Human Resource Development (Volunteers): Oversee, design and implement a strategic plan to inspire, manage and acknowledge volunteer resources raised for Heading Home’s mission.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, the individual must have excellent strategic planning, management, financial development and interpersonal skills, must be able to think strategically, and must work well with others across a broad spectrum of situations, generations, and socio-economic levels. The person will have demonstrated abilities in connection with community leaders and major donors, and must be able to manage multiple strategic goals simultaneously. The person must have excellent and compelling spoken and written skills and must be willing to work occasional evenings in order to manage and attend evening events which seek to raise awareness or funds for Heading Home.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Experience with CFRE level leadership in financial development (a CFRE certification in work history from AFP is appreciated.)
  • A Master's or Bachelor’s Degree is preferred along with excellent communications and writing skills.
  • Minimum of seven years in active financial development including proven major gift solicitation.
  • A working knowledge of issues regarding homelessness and a demonstrated and articulated passion for serving the financially poor and marginalized are essential.

Other Requirements

  • Must be willing to lead and participate in workshops and training sessions.
  • May require use of a personal cell phone and will require personal use of a car.
  • May include some travel.
  • CPR/First Aid certification within 30 days of employment.
