Director of Design and Photography, Football

The University of Virginia is a highly competitive Division I program committed to academic and athletic excellence. The Department of Athletics at the University of Virginia is now accepting applications for the position of Director of Photography and Design to support the Football program. The Director will plan and execute social media campaigns and create multimedia visual content for the Virginia football program.

Key Duties And Responsibilities

  • Create visual content (photo, design, and occasional video) for digital platforms including social media accounts for Virginia Athletics with primary focus on UVA Football.
  • Be a valuable resource for creative solutions and communications in developing and executing social and digital strategy.
  • Assist with photo/video/lighting equipment management and upkeep.
  • Assist with leadership, organization, and implementation of student creative assistant program.
  • Lead football creative recruiting content with support from Directors of Creative Media and Strategy
  • Collaborates with Virginia Football Video Production in execution of multimedia projects.
  • Coordinate and lead photographic efforts in annual Virginia Showcase media days.
  • Set up, design, and execute photoshoots for prospective student-athletes for official and unofficial visits.
  • Edit photo assets for cloud-based distribution to both prospective and current Virginia student-athletes.
  • Serve as the primary editor for design and photo assets for Virginia Football.
  • Attend all recruiting meetings, staff meetings, and content creative meetings with Athletic Department with the primary focus on football.
  • Other duties assigned by the Head Coach and or UVA Athletics Creative.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Extensive Experience in creative software (Adobe Creative Suite including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere, After Effects, Media Encoder).
  • Extensive experience in photography, creative lighting, and photo editing.
  • Proven ability to build relationships, collaborate, and work effectively with diverse constituents.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work well in a team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to work non-standard hours and travel.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment serving numerous constituents.
  • Experience developing a creative identity and robust social presence.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Three years of relevant experience in photography, creative design, video production, communications, technology and/or a related field.

Preferred Requirements

  • Four-five years of relevant experience in video production, creative design, communications, technology and/or a related field.
  • Prior experience working with collegiate and/or professional football programs in a creative role.
  • Prior experience in video directing, filming, and editing.
  • Prior experience in graphic design and creative content production.
  • Experience with basic audio techniques used in on-camera interviews and in voiceover situations for post-production projects.
  • Passion in creative innovation and an understanding of current creative trends
  • Experience in leading a team of creatives and/or students, establishing unit culture, and clearly communicating department standards and initiatives.

Physical Demands

This is a job that requires some physical activity including walking, lifting, and carrying heavy equipment (up to 50 pounds), bending over/stooping and climbing ladders or stairs to capture different photographic angles, and working in a variety of extreme weather conditions. Extensive use of desktop computers and some sedentary work required. Some travel may be required.
