POSITION GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Director of Construction takes a leadership role and facilitates the overall Project Management process and profitability for the Site Group as it relates to all aspects of the project life cycle. He/she openly communicates and shares information with all Project/Program stakeholders including both external, internal and transcends all internal department or division boundaries for the overall advancement of project development and client satisfaction.

Position Specific Duties And Responsibilities

Project Direction and Administration:

  • Monitor Project Manager work assignments and assign Project Management staffing for new projects.
  • Assumes responsibility of establishing goals and monitoring the effectiveness of the Project Management Team.
  • Verify accuracy of contract documents prior to them being issued.
  • Monitor project buyouts.
  • Assemble documents required for Monthly Financials.
  • Monitor with other group's directors the group's budget.
  • Review and monitor upcoming projects as they develop from the Estimating Department by being involved up front in the estimating process when they are actively bidding a project.
  • Manage and keep record of project start dates and manage individual Project Managers work load.
  • Ensure the Project Managers are following all current company procedures.
  • Encourage Project Managers to maintain an open line of communication with project team.
  • Conduct bi-weekly Project Management department meetings to review current projects.
  • Review and offer direction in the selection of subcontractors, contract summaries of work, contractual issues or any other issues that arise in the course of management of construction projects.
  • Attend Owner-Architect meetings and subcontractor progress meetings on a periodic basis.
  • Conduct monthly WIP (Work-In-Progress) review meetings with the Project Managers.
  • Attend internal meetings on a regular basis to review the status of the Site Group; be prepared to discuss the development of the Project Managers, Project Engineers, staffing requirements and any other situations that may arise.
  • Review and analyze the strengths and weaknesses of the individual Project Managers and Project Engineers and propose developmental goals and make project assignments accordingly.
  • Provide effective leadership, training, and mentoring throughout the Project Management Team.
  • Assist with additional projects, duties, and tasks as assigned.

Establishing & Accomplishing Goals

  • Offer input into the implementation of the strategic planning of the Site
  • Review and analyze the strengths, weaknesses and operational goals of the individual staff and propose developmental goals.
  • Continue to develop and improve Site Group procedures.
  • Coordinate with all Building Groups to maintain consistent policies and procedures.
  • Develop and nurture client relations.
  • Professionally represent Marous Brothers Construction by participating in public functions and gatherings and maintain effective relationships with public, government officials and trade organizations.

Managing The Site Group Budget

  • Assists with assembling the Group's quarterly updates on the year's budget.
  • Assists in the development of the Site Group annual budget.
  • Develops methods for tracking the capital expenditures of the Site
  • Provides tracking of the current and projected company and project specific budgets, project management purchases and upgrades, equipment purchases and upgrades, training costs, travel costs, etc.
  • Perform interim financial forecasting of active projects.

Position Qualifications

Education: Degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Architecture, Construction Technology, or equivalent

Knowledge Required: Thorough knowledge of the construction industry with familiarity of building codes, laws and regulations. Understanding financial practices and accounting policies. Understanding computer related programs.

Experience Required: At least ten (10) years of Project Management experience on multimillion-dollar projects within the construction industry; at least two (2) years being at a Senior Project Management level.

Skills/Abilities: Shows the ability to have strong interpersonal, organizational, and analytical skills with the ability to coordinate, manage, and direct others.
