Director of Construction

Addison Group Greater Houston

Provides strategic leadership and direction of construction projects such as developing a new facility; the addition, expansion, or extension of an existing facility; or renovation/alterations to a facility in collaboration with project team, construction site and management. Oversees assignments, timetables, and responsibilities for team members for the duration of the project. Directs construction personnel and ensures that materials and equipment resources are delivered on time.

Essential Duties

  • Provides leadership and direct report development to ensure performance objectives are achieved for both the team and organization. Ensures policies and best practices are followed while conducting timely performance management conversations with team members.
  • Supports recruitment efforts within construction team to fill open positions.
  • Develops and maintains positive relationships with internal team members and groups.
  • Actively builds and maintains relationships with key customer accounts and professionals.
  • Supports the development of and participates in customer presentations on specific project proposals.
  • Communicates the outcome of presentations and relays specific customer expectations that will influence contract performance. Meets with customers to provide advice and planning during preconstruction phase and full construction project lifecycle to ensure project success.
  • Has detailed understanding of project delivery methods of plan spec, design-assist, and design-build.
  • Has detailed understanding of contractual procurement methods and reimbursable terms.
  • Has detailed understanding of the various design phases to include SD, DD, and CD documents.
  • Partners with design team to guide and/or lead the design effort for early involvement projects. Oversees successful and well-organized transition for sold projects to operations teams.
  • Creates accurate conceptual budgets based off minimal information. Reviews all estimate packages to ensure accuracy and completeness prior to formal proposals. Produces project estimates using prescribed forms, industry recognized techniques and TD standardized processes.
  • Communicates all project issues through the appropriate channels of management in a timely manner.
  • Monitors all addenda, scope changes and bid forms to ensure they are processed and incorporated into the estimate in a timely manner. Leads vendor or supplier management quoting process in negotiating contracts, change orders, etc. as required.
  • Oversees bid-day vendor and subcontractor analysis to ensure project requirements are clearly understood in preconstruction and construction approach.
  • Maintains project probable in craft labor forecasting system to ensure accurate reflection of business unit capacity.
  • Works with operations leadership to align project team availability with targeted project pursuits.
  • Leads pursuit meetings to ensure alignment with business development, preconstruction, construction, operations, and engineering resources with business goals.
  • Operates with a strong sense of urgency in meeting both internal and external deadlines.
  • Has detailed understanding of mechanical, plumbing, process, and cleanroom architectural requirements.



Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Science, Construction Management or related field is preferred. Commensurate experience required at minimum.
  • 7+ years’ experience in electrical power plant, energy, oil & gas, pipeline, gas compression facilities, and industrial construction project management.
  • In-depth understanding of construction procedures and material and project management principles.
  • Familiarity with quality and health and safety standards.
  • Experience with producing accurate and complete construction plans and reports
  • Ability to work independently in a team environment and to manage multiple projects with limited supervision.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills, communicating engineering information clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to train/mentor staff and review work for quality assurance.
  • Solid leadership and management skills, self-motivated, and possess a strong ability to meet deadlines, satisfy clients, and solve complex problems.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, and Civil3D are all a plus
  • Highly organized and detail oriented
  • Willingness/ability to assume increased responsibilities when presented
  • Consistently deliver proactive communication with clients. When client issues arise, address, or expeditiously escalate to discipline lead
  • Develop relationships with clients that allows for ease in communications and problem solving
  • Troubleshoot issues and recommend solutions, effectively implement and document for internal and external stakeholders.
