Employment Status: Full Time/Exempt

Salary: $90,000.00/ year

Position Overview


The Director of Community Programming will oversee the NYIC's Community Programming team, managing a robust calendar of community-facing events and wraparound services across New York State. The Director of Community Program will focus on enhancing the level of support the NYIC provides to our Member organizations that provide direct services. The Director will oversee the coordination and support for various immigrant-serving events and technical assistance to legal and social service providers throughout the state. Events include varying degrees of participation in legal clinics as well as the organization of monthly Key to the City events in public schools, which bring consular services, legal clinics, financial literacy education, and wraparound services to hundreds of underserved immigrants throughout New York City. The Director will also lead the NYIC’s role in coordinating legal work in collaboration with NYIC members and partners and provide comprehensive care coordination and management across various contracts and programs, leading the NYIC’s approach to case management.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Support for Immigrant Service Providers

  • Lead the strategy and execution of broad, collaborative initiatives with NYIC members to provide critical services for immigrant communities.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with legal and social service providers throughout New York State, funders, elected officials, and strategic partners and allies; share information and serve as a resource for partners.
  • Maintain a bird's-eye view of immigrant services and emerging needs and opportunities throughout New York.


Organizational

  • Serve as spokesperson for NYIC when necessary, engaging local and ethnic media when appropriate.
  • Work with cross-departmental teams to ensure that community-facing resources and services are maximized, effectively deployed for implementation of campaigns, programs, initiatives, and responses to external opportunities and needs.
  • Oversee program budget and support development efforts by identifying and cultivating potential funding sources and preparing proposals and reports.
  • Develop and maintain planning, monitoring, and evaluation tools for the program to track success and areas for improvement.


Management

  • Lead the Community Programming team with a focus on strengthening NYIC Member organizations' ability to serve community members, working with senior leadership to identify priorities and design activities to accomplish them, supporting the team to achieve goals, comply with regulatory and funder requirements, seamlessly handle logistics, and provide excellent customer service.
  • Build and supervise a team of staff, fellows, and volunteers to deliver case management, execute community-facing events, and develop resources that are responsive to the needs on the ground.
  • Motivate staff, manage performance, guide professional development, and provide critical feedback.
  • Occasionally carries or lifts materials weighing fifty pounds or less


Qualifications

  • 5 years of progressive experience in immigration law (the practice of immigration law) as a team leader and project manager, ideally building programming related to immigration services.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to convey complex information and concepts in a digestible manner
  • Knowledge of immigration law and an understanding of the key needs of immigrant communities are required. Ability to use data to evaluate and design programming, experience managing and thinking critically about the design of data collection systems.
  • Creative and dynamic project leader who can respond quickly to new challenges and lead in rapid response moments
  • Experience as a supervisor and a team leader is required. The candidate must be highly proficient in team-building, coaching, mentoring, and talent development.
  • Commitment to building and supporting diverse teams, a highly culturally competent manager who can effectively engage diverse voices in developing and carrying out the organization’s priorities.
  • Ability to regularly travel within New York State.
  • Fluency in a language other than English is a bonus, though not required.

**The NYIC has a transparent and equitable salary structure. Starting salaries for each position are set in advance with no room for negotiation.
